Very effective
This is a useful tool for the grooming kit if like me, you have a horse/pony with an incredibly thick mane/tail who is disinclined to stand for long enough for you to make any impact through pulling etc.!(You can also use this tool on other animals, such as dogs - I tested it out on my dog to begin with, and it seemed quite effective at removing the undercoat which otherwise ends up all over the furniture). You simply make sure the mane/tail is brushed through and free from tangles, then drag the rake down through the hair. There are two sets of teeth on the rake - on one side they are set more widely apart, which is good for particularly thick hair; on the other side the teeth are closer together which good for maintenance/thinner hair. The rake is nice to hold with a grippy handle, and is light so you won't get fatigued if you have to use for a while. It didn't take me long at all to thin an extremely thick mane on a native-type horse.

A great product!
Very ease to use. From a pony who hated mane pulling with a pulling comb, she actually now enjoys having this solorake used on her mane. She completely relaxes! Does a decent job of thinning thicker parts of mane and tail, does not shorten though! I use scissors to get length, and then this to thin out a bit ( seems to pull out old loose hair mostly, so once this is out can't get much more thinner). It also helps to soften ends where I have cut with scissors, making it look more natural. A really good product. To get a softer 'cut line' need to use with the solocomb.

A must-have for horse owners
This is great for thinning manes and forelocks. My horse has very thick mane hair and the wide side works brilliantly at taking the weight out of it. It doesn't hurt the animal and is kinder than pulling the mane. This product is as good a quality as more expensive versions.

Brilliant product
I have a pony with a very very very thick mane and pulling it was a nightmare.... I used the Solorake today and it has thinned my pony's mane out lovely..... The rake was so easy to use... I brushed through the mane with a normal brush and the usesd the rake..... The hair came out easy and effortlessly.... And my pony didn't get upset in any way. Would highly recommend the product and seller. The rake arrived within the time frame.

works on some horses not on others
After reading the other reviews I took a chance and bought this rake with an open mind. I used it on two different horses to thin manes and tails with varying success. Firstly neither horses minded the use of the rake and one hates having his mane pulled. You do need to use it with quite a bit of pressure but all was good. I used it on a Connemara x TB to thin an unruly mane that used to separate down the middle and fall on both sides. It did thin the mane and get out the dead hair but as others have said it doesn't shorten the mane. I damped the mane down and plaited it on one side and since taking out the plaits it has stayed on the one side for 10 days so an excellent product for that problem. However on my other horse, who has a thinner mane anyway it didn't work at all. Now to the tails, again my con x tb had a previously pulled tail and the rake was quite useless in this instance and I do fail to see how you are going to achieve a pulled tail look with this gadget. My other horse however does have quite a thick tail and by raking the dock it did thin the tail which I was happy with, but it does not achieve the pulled look. So as it is not expensive it is worth a try especially on a horse with a thick mane and tail. Use the side with the least rakes first then turn over and finish tidying. I hope this helps.

Grooming Aid worked well on my small dog.
I bought this Solorake Humane grooming aid following a recommendation from my dogs physiotherapist. My little Yorkie/Westie cross has a neurological condition which means that using electric hair clippers over stimulate him. This hand groomer worked well through brushed hair and my dog was relaxed and comfortable. It coped well with his hair and didn't cause discomfort. I used them along side scissors. Very happy with my purchase.
