Great substrate
Brilliant substrate, Great value at £13 a bag I ordered 3*8kg bags for a 4*2*1 bow front (260litres) and it covers the base of the tank just nicely. Didn't even have to wash it the sand is very clean and simply poured it in with no clouding etc. It comes out like very, very small round pellets in-between coarse sand and ultra fine gravel which is better than I expected, it is also a more of a slate colour than pure black looking natural and really makes the fish and plants "pop". Have attached pictures of my tank thrown quickly together after a house move and even in this state it looks great

Amazing and very clean substrate
you could probably get away without washing it first however i did rinse it and it was very clean, the colour is a little lighter than expected but its still very aesthetically pleasing in my eyes.

Seems good but not jet black I think
Seems fine so far, was surprisingly very clean only rinsed it once and it was clear , I mixed with the Fluval stratum that I already had from previous and there is a noticeable colour difference, seems more of a grey then black against the stratum but it don’t look too bad

Quality sand
I've used the petted black sand for years,it not really black it grey, and it natural it not dyed.it needs avit of a wash before use but it come quit clean, great for Malawi cichlids or other freshwater, state it can be used in reef, but I would avoid for a reef aquarium but proberly would use on a marine aquarium, fish only.

Sand, not gravel.
The grains are small and appear uniform. The sand is dark but not quite as dark as my gravel. I had read a review saying such, so I was prepared for a substrate that was not going to suck the light out of the room. Under my aquarium lights the substrate appears as a dark graphite. As the grains appear regular, I cannot see them causing any problems for the inhabitants. You may get darker sand but will you pay a similar price? The gravel was a lot more expensive.

Finer gravel than i expected
I really like this gravel, i was expecting black pebbles but was pleasantly surprised to find that this is more like course sand, it looks absolutely gorgeous. I did slightly worry that my gravel cleaner was going to suck it all up however, i have been cleaning my tank as usual and had no issues (except for a tiny amount being sucked up but nothing to worry about) thought id write this review to mention that it is gravel cleaner safe, at least mine anyway.
