So. Much. Work.
For some context, this review is written by a pretty new wood worker. They are excellent value, but there are huge trade offs. If you don't want to read more, I would pick up a single one of these to see what you are up against before buying a whole set.I picked up this set after seeing Youtube reviews by Rex and James Wright. They praised the set as a great value and I don't really disagree--but only to a point. What they save you in money, they will cost you in time and sharpening resources and sweat.Of the set of four, none of them had flat backs--they weren't even close to flat. Coupling a non-flat chisel with a Rockwell hardness of 62 makes for a really long night... What you see in my pictures are the result of 45 -60 minutes of flattening with a course DMT diamond stone. I gave up after I got a 1/4 inch of flat back to work with. Was this worth saving 60$ per chisel? Maybe. The other thing that really bothers me about these is that the handles are gigantic and heavy. The tang-through design coupled with a huge handle really goofs up the balance if you use a tool slot. They like to flip over if sitting in a too-narrow slot. Rob Cosman has reviews about this brand and absolutely nailed his take on Narex chisel ergonomics (maybe I should have listened). The frustrating part about the handles is that they feel great. Why are the handles so big? Was this worth saving $60? I dunno. This is annoying. Might try to modify the handles down the road. After flattening the backs of three of these tonight, I'm not really in a great place emotionally or mentally. I am dreading flattening the fourth whenever I end up needing it. But after a LOT of flattening and a LOT of sharpening, they perform very well. I'm confident that edge retention will be excellent but time will tell. The video attached is testing sharpness with basswood end grain. They do work. So, overall, are these worth it? For about $40 each, I think you get some excellent steel in the vague shape of a chisel. These require a LOT of work and tools (not everything can cut steel this hard) to get going. The handles will bother me for a while. The alternative is to spend $100+ per chisel with Lee Nielsen or Rob Cosman and I just can't afford that. Yea, I think they were worth it but I'm not sure I'll be buying any more Narex chisels in the future.

Cosmetically beautiful, poorly functional.
Chisels look beautiful, but right out of the box required hours upon hours to get each chisel back flat and polished, then grinded a 27• Micro bevel. After enduring that long undesirable process I put the chisels to the test cutting a very shallow mortise, maybe 20-25 hits into the wood total, and I checked the chisels sharpness and was very disappointed. After 4 minutes of work the chisel has already developed a burr on the back on which was and causing tear out during my mortise test. Horbor freight chisels have held an edge far better than these. Conclusion, if you want to spend hours getting them into workable conditions, and love sharpening excessively, then these are perfect! If your a person who admires true, high quality chisels, theae are not them.I will be returning these chisels only because they didnt hold an edge.

Primary bevel not straight
Nice steel and hold an edge but they took some work to get a straight edge. In my opinion they are overpriced considering they were not straight from the factory. Also, the primary bevel is around 23 degrees. Kind of odd to not go with 25. I’ve since corrected these problems but I’d be careful if you’re a beginner.
