The Little Book Of Hindu Deities: From the Goddess of Wealth to the Sacred Cow

Great book with amazing illustrations
I originally purchased this book for my daughter for her second Diwali. I wanted to bring her closer to Hinduism and as she's still very young I wanted something that was very visual. The illustrations are beautiful and I can see why kids may be drawn to it solely from a visual sense. The descriptions are however are a little more complicated despite the authors best attempts to keep it simple. This is due to the complex nature and convoluted stories pertaining to each character so I think the author was up against it to try and appeal to a very young audience. The book is pretty comprehensive - I learned a lot! It even covers aspects that are not very common, like philosophy or the various aspects of Shiva, its also fun and interesting. The great illustrations and the little jokes make it look like it is fun for them but the information Is on the heavy side.I think this book is great and informative for adults and visually appealing for kids.

Hindu Deities
I originally purchased this book for my son (aged 5), but I found it more interesting than he did. This book is still a great visual tool for parents interested in introducing their children to Hinduism.

Great book for Children and adults
I saw someone reading this with their child and bought it partly for a better understanding myself and also to have as a Diversity Resource for my Grandchildren to look at .

A very nice little book
This is a lovely little book, offering cute and funky but respectful interpretations of the Hindu pantheon, in a art style quite similar to that of Samurai Jack. In the accompanying descriptions the raunchier aspects of the myths aren't ignored, but are couched in terms unlikely to attract the notice of children. The edition I have bought - by the time you read this there may well have been others, given how good a book this is - has a flaw, in that the binding is not strong enough to withstand the interest of a young child, and it's falling apart after only a couple of weeks. I'm probably going to have to apply a heavy duty stapler to it soon. Also, these bright, attractive pictures would benefit enormously from glossy paper, to really let them shine.

Buy This Book!
If you’re considering this book, just get it! It’s too cute; colorful and fun for kids! Not too scary like some images can be for small children. It’s actually interesting as an overview and brief description for adults who just want the basics. Good value.

This is great for all ages!
This is great for all ages! Purchased for my daughters, but parents were also impressed. Would recommend for anyone who wants a good basis. A good introduction to the trimurti, incarnations of Vishnu, incarnations of goddesses, a summary of major book stories, and more.

Second copy
List the first one, and missed the rasy to read descriptions of not only Hindu Gods, but avatars of most and chapter about the epics of the spiritual texts. The illustrations can be enjoyed by all ages.
