Bit of Magic Between Gleeson and Farrell
Liked this film because of the lead actors, Thought they were great in the film - "In Bruges" and so same with this film. They play off each other in a delightful way - even as the finger count adds up.Recommended for those who enjoy quiet films with excellent acting and sly humor on the dark side.

Kinda of depressing
It starts with two drinking buddies Colm and Padraic who live on a remote island off of western Ireland. Colm all of a sudden decides to stop being Padraic's friend to concentrate on writing music that will last longer than friendship. Colm says he will cut off his own fingers if Padraic doesn't stop talking to him. Which for a fiddle player is a stupid idea. The best part of the whole movie is Padraic's pet goat. The story does not have a happy ending for anyone. So if you suffer depression don't watch!

Not what I expected
Likable actors in an unlikable story. I understood it was more of a comedy when it was actually a dark movie. Gorgeous scenery. It’s sad when the donkey is your favorite character.

Stunning Film.
Powerful and unusual story that will blow you away. The cinematography is stunning! Be warned...this is a very, very strange ending! A bit shocking. If you like very unique films, you will love this film!

No Stars (and one finger) for "The Banshees of Inishmoron"
This film is just pure drivel. It works hard (too hard) to appear "deep" and "meaningful" and "symbolic"; but it succeeds only in being shallow, meaningless and disturbingly trite. It beggars belief that this could've been deemed "Oscar worthy" cinema! The Title (translated): “Banshees of Inisherin”. A banshee is a female spirit, usually one who brings bad news. Inish is the Irish (Gaelic) for “island”; and “erin” is the Irish (Gaelic) for Ireland. So: The Ominous Female Spirits of the Island of Ireland, if you’re looking for a direct translation. You’re probably thinking, “begor now but that’s deep stuff and it’s probably a commentary on contemporary Ireland.” Well, it isn’t. Or, if it is, it’s a shallow and meaningless “commentary”.The Plot:A man who has been drinking buddies with a moron decides, without rhyme or reason, not to be his friend anymore. But he doesn't tell him that. Too obvious. He lets him figure it out for himself ... the way you would if you suddenly decided not to hang out with your Best Friend, wingman and drinking buddy any more. So the Drinking Buddy (Colin Farrell), not being the brightest bulb on this dim-witted island of unmarried morons ~ there's not a single married character, so to speak, in this entire godforsaken tale of low-wattage ignoramuses ~ … decides to confront his erstwhile friend (Brendan Gleeson, or “Mad-Eye” Moody if you’re a Potterhead) to find out what’s gone wrong.Gleeson’s character, who is about as believable as Sasquatch, tells Farrell that he is duller than ditchwater, that he is a waste of space and time, and that he (Gleeson) being a musician wants to spend the rest of his days composing music. (No doubt all of this could’ve been explained over a Pint of Plain in the Local, but that’d be far too obvious and there’d be no chance of getting all symbolic and deep and “arty”. These theatrical types move in mysterious ways you see). When Farrell persists in trying to renew the friendship (or at least figure out what’s wrong with his buddy), the musical Gleeson (who plays the fiddle, in the film AND in real life) threatens to cut off a finger each time Farrell talks to him. How’s that for symbolism !The rest of the film is about cutting off your nose to spite your face, or somesuch equally-clichéd "moral".Conclusion: Trust me. There’s nothing “deep” or “meaningful” happening here. It’s just a waste of time and money. Do yourself a favour: give this offering the finger and watch “The Field” instead.

Beautiful film, shame no 4K
I purchased this sight unseen based on my love for In Bruges alone (It was a limited engagement here in the theatre, but during a time of year that was awkward with the demands of my work schedule,)- and a word of caution, if you are expecting In Bruges this is not that, and I don't mean it negatively The Banshees of Inisherin is understated, bleak, lovely and heartbreaking in a way In Bruges is not. Make your own decision to see it first or blind buy as I did. I have only one regret - this film is so beautifully filmed, textures, light and landscape, that it's a crying shame it did not have a 4k home release. I can only hope, as In Bruges recently received the 4K treatment, that the Banshees of Inisherin eventually will as well.

Haunting Masterpiece
Beautifully shot, wonderfully acted film. I know this is a love-it-or-hate-it film that not everybody will appreciate. But if you fall on the side of liking it, this is the kind of movie that will stay in your thoughts for days. It will haunt you. There are many layers & messages & images here that lift this far above the typical film; this one has honestly unexpected outcomes in the story, things you will not see it coming. It is a brilliant film of dialogue & emotion. IMPORTANT: I strongly suggest you do NOT read any film reviews about this movie because they give away a big 'spoiler' which will ruin any suspense if you already know "what happens." Seriously, don't read anything else about this, just watch it. A MASTERPIECE of a film.

The blackest of black comedy about an unusual friendship
Was looking forward to seeing the film from all the adwards and rave reviews and was not disappointed. Top performance from the cast...even the donkey and the dog was good.

Capolavoro,
