Lovely book
An excellent book. Smaller than I was expecting, but that may be because I didn’t read the measurements properly! I actually like the smaller size - it’s easier to manage as a book to read to my son rather than the larger A4 size. There are plenty of illustrations in the book which include lots of colour. This is nice because long reams of text can be dull for primary age children. The text itself is split into short paragraphs which are suitable for young readers (I would say Y3).There are six stories in the book, each of which are split into short chapters. At the end of the book there is a short section dedicated to the Greek Gods.I really like this book and it’s a great introduction to the Greek Myths. I’d recommend it for primary age children. Older children probably need something with more detail.

Brilliant - so well written!
Our family love this book. We'd borrowed a copy from the library despite me thinking it was a bit old for my boys (3 and 4) and they thoroughly enjoyed it. The stories are written in chapters which are short enough to keep even the then-2-yr-old's attention and there is plenty of drama. The illustrations don't take over from the text. My boys have enjoyed listening without being able to see the pictures at all. The ancient myths are pitched well for children but haven't been stripped of their power. Now - with my teacher hat on - this is an EXCELLENT book. I wish I had had a copy when teaching about Ancient Greece to junior classes. The text is so well-planned and structured. The vocabulary and sentence structure are great - there is variety and precision. We're home-schooling and I expect this will become a key model text.USBORNE - do not stop printing this book. Or print lots more from the same authors. Please!

WONDERFUL! NOT A LATINIZED NAME IN SIGHT
Purchased for my great nephew, THIS is the perfect introduction to the Greek Myths. After looking at several publications covering this field, I have been dismayed that the Greek gods and heroes have mostly been referred to by their Roman equivalents: these are NOT GREEK myths. Helpfully, this book gives the Latinized names at the back, but correctly re-tells the stories in their original. It is important for young readers to be able to differentiate between the two. There are six myths included which, if a child shows keen interest, will lead him/her to further reading and study. As a starter to that interest, I recommend the Illustrated Stories from the Greek Myths highly. The illustrations are bright and plentiful and the language modern and simple. My book arrived very quickly and well packed.

Excellent children's book with wonderful illustations
I bought this for my niece who has Greek heritage. She absolutely adores it and always wants it read to her at bedtime. The messages in the stories are great conversation starters.

Excellent, my 9 year old son loves reading the stories!
This is the second time we are reading this book and this time my 9-year-old son is reading most of the stories to me. I am surprised at how keen he is to read this book because getting him to read can be a struggle. The only problem is the unusual names and cities, (there are no clues on how to pronounce them). Most of the times I can hardly read the names myself and I should not have any excuses as I am Greek! But that is a small problem as the stories are so engaging, the pictures wonderful, the stories of Troy, Odysseus, Heracles etc. are wonderful (I did not like the Norse stories book by Usborne, it did not flow as perfectly as this one). Excellent book for anyone from around 6 years old to 100 :)
