The Tractor Book: The Definitive Visual History

The title says it all. If you just required one book about the history and development of the farm tractor, this is the one to have. The text is very informative and the pictures are typical DK ( In other words stunning ) OK there is the odd mistake , for example on page 158 it says The Massey Ferguson 1080 was fitted with a Perkins 6 cylinder engine. It wasn't, it was actually fitted with a Perkins A4.318 engine having 4 cylinders ( Had it been fitted with a Perkins 6 cylinder like it's bigger sister The 1100 it would probably have been a better tractor, but that's another story! ) That does not distract from it being a 5 star book and my little boy (Who too young to read yet ) loves looking at the gorgeous photos with me.

My other half spent his youth driving tractors so this book bought back memories and also great facts about older farm machinery.

This book was bought as a present, and the recipient thought thought it was great, hence the rating, gumbledon.

Recipient loved it despite commenting that several key tractors weren't included so it wasn't as definitive as the title suggests. They also found many inaccuracies and thought many of the technical details were lacking. But then they're an agricultural engineer and have spent a lifetime collecting and restoring tractors...On a positive it's a great looking book with great pictures of a good selection of tractors.On a negative it's not a definitive guide contrary to the title, and if you give it to a tractor afficienado they will find plenty of faults.Don't buy expecting lots of detailed info either - you'd be better off with a book that specifically focuses on an individual make or model for something more in-depth. But if you want a decently comprehensive collection with basic info all in one book, then this is ideal!

As always DK books don’t disappoint, with all their glossy pictures, they will tempt even the book shy boy. This was a great little stocking filler for not much more than the postage cost. Good condition pre-loved books win win as far as I’m concerned. A very happy customer. X

Whist I am not into tractors myself the book was purchased for an elderly gentleman who farmed all his life. It is a beautiful book, heavy and so well illustrated. He is going to be made up.
