Raid Essentials Flying Insect Light Trap Starter Kit, 2 Plug-In Devices + 2 Cartridges, Featuring Light Powered Attraction

I was really.hoping this would attract flies, but alas. It catches mostly gnats.

We've had small flying critters in our kitchen for a while. The tried-and-true method, using vinegar and dish soap to trap and drown them only got our kitchen smelling like salad dressing.When we plugged one of these into a handy kitchen outlet where we've seen lots of the pests flying about we expected good results. After a week, nothing. The sticky trap was as clean as the day we unwrapped it.Then I moved it to an outlet about 10' away. Instead of countertop height, this one was at floor level. To me, that seemed less likely to work. However, I also believe that if something doesn't work, it might be time to try something else.Now it's two days later. The sticky part of the trap is covered with about a dozen insect carcasses, and we haven't spotted any flying around the kitchen.So, that's the trick. Thinking like an insect probably won't work because those buggers don't really think. However, if you find that the trap isn't catching anything, consider moving it someplace nearby. Once you find the right spot, I think you'll be as delighted as we are with how well these traps work.And a brief description might be helpful. There are two parts to this thing. The main part consists of a plug, a blue light, and a translucent curved shield. The trap part of the trap is a rigid plastic sheet that's covered on both sides with very sticky glue. That sheet snaps in behind the curved shield. It works by the bugs being attracted by the blue light and possibly a scent embedded in the glue. Once they touch either side of the sheet they're stuck and will die. When bugs sufficiently cover the adhesive on the sheet, you pop it out and replace it with a new (inexpensive) one. The good news is that thanks to the translucency (not a word, but it should be) of the curved shield, you don't have to look at the dead bugs unless you're checking the trap.

A hallway window with no screen was left open and a HORDE of flies took over my apartment, especially my kitchen. At first I didn't know where they were coming from and tried to tackle them with a swatter. I saw the ad for this and ordered it. It is USELESS! The window is closed, I am still chasing flies with a swatter (almost gone now!) and not ONE fly has been trapped in either of these plug-ins. They are totally useless, unless you want a night light...which I don't. This is a lot of money to throw away on something that does absolutely nothing!

It's pretty effective put a bit pricey for what get in the box. The refills aren't cheap either.

This product wasn't entirely worthless, but did not do what I expected. Perhaps that's partly my fault and not reading the entire product description. What we really needed was something to get rid of the regular sized house flies. This product seem to only get the small fruit flies. And even with the fruit flies, it seem to be somewhat minimal. The design of the product and the blue light was fine. Factoring everything in and considering the expense of price point is the reason for my review of three stars. There are better products available at local hardware stores at a fraction of the cost to get the regular sized house flies and that is what I will be switching to.

I love the fact that it’s Raid. One of the biggest bug brands to ever exist. The way it works is that once attached to the wall it emits a blue light. That blue light attracts all types of bugs and the closer they get around it, the quicker they get stuck on a sticky double sided square it comes with. This was my favorite especially during the hot summer. Mosquitoes would be caught, no questions asked. Less bites=happier me. :)!

I have tried several different things to control the seeming endless parade of fruit flies in my house. I’ve tried a light and fan combo thing in the kitchen near the produce like bananas, which works pretty well, but isn’t great for small spaces. We have our cats’ litter boxes in a bathroom and it attracts little flies. I plugged in this Raid bug catcher and it really did the trick. Also acts as a sort of night light. I have a second one in our master bath, as I have most of my house plants in there and there are always little bugs. The refills seem a bit pricey for a piece of gluey plastic, but the form and function seem quite good.
