Compact four-hole hole punch
I needed a four-hole hole punch. This one seemed to fit the bill and so far it’s worked perfectly. It’s compact, the lock to keep it shut is a nice touch - means it takes up less space in the drawer and seems well made.

Rapesco 1385 720 4-Hole Metal Punch (in hot pink)
Does it work is the only thing I care about (it does), so I got mine in hot pink to save a few quid.It loses one star as the product page showed a *very* vague centre marking, which you would use to centre your page (if you didn't want to use the grey guide on the left). I have added my own marking with a pen. I don't know how long that will last.To be clear though, this star was only taken off because it represents a difference from the description. The grey guide on the left works perfectly well to line up your page, so there's no real issue here (as long as it doesn't break). The hole punch lock seems like a bit of a pointless feature, but it works, and it's easy to disengage (without even touching the slider)The page guide (on the left in my picture) also seems a little bit pointless.* 1 : when *NOT SET* to a specific page size it will be at it's most useful (4 hole A4)* 2 : it's hard for me to read (I think that's a colour thing, but I do also need glasses)* 3 : there's 2 A4 settings!- The A4E setting will let you hole punch the top of an A4 sheet (I can't see myself ever using this)- The A4S setting will let you punch the side of an A4 sheet .... with 3 holes rather than 4?I'm not sure how this is ever going to be useful! The unit seems quite sturdy, so that's good. Only time will tell if it lasts.

I'm surprised at the negative reviews
Admittedly I've just received the item and have only used it to punch holes in 12 sheets of 100 gsm paper and 12 sheets of 170 gsm photo paper, but it did the job cleanly, easily and accurately without jamming up. It needed to be accurate as all 24 sheets had to line up. It feels heavy and sturdy. It does say it can cut 22 sheets but I think it's always a mistake to load to the max - maybe that would indeed make 'plugs' that jam the holes. I probably did only 4 sheets of paper at a time and the photos individually. The locking mechanism is handy so that it can be put back in the box, as it isn't something I'll be needing too often. What I have noticed, though, is that it punches slightly smaller holes than my regular 2-hole punch - hard to measure but I reckon approx 5mm vs 6mm. I'm pleased I bought it.

A great budget punch from a reputable brand
I ordered this Rapesco 4-hole punch with some confidence, having had an excellent experience with a fancy Rapesco 2-hole punch. It's a well-made item, with a very sturdy lever and cutting blades that punch holes cleanly and without undue effort. I used it to punch 2*72uM laminated sheets of everyday office-quality paper, and it comfortably cut through six laminated sheets at a time. (I figure that's near enough the rated 20 sheet limit. I didn't try it with more than six sheets at a time, though I'm sure it would have done more.)It has split bases that allow the punched paper clippings to be disposed of quickly and without too much drama, though there's a little bit of jiggling involved in getting every last bit out. There's a locking tab to allow the lever to be locked down to minimise storage size, if needed. The only issue I have with the punch is the budget implementation of the paper guide. It's clearly been made to a budget and adjusting it is a bit hit and miss as there are no discrete stops for the various paper sizes. It's fine once it's set up, but if I was using this punch for two sizes of paper, I'd get fed up with it quickly. If you only need it for one size like I do, you'll be fine. As this is a budget punch I am happy with the decision to cut money spent on the guide and focus on the cutting components, which work smoothly and efficiently. All in all it's a nice bit of kit that works without issue and I find it great value.

The Guide Isn't Accurate
The punch goes through the paper fine. In that regard, it works. However, the grey sliding guide to centre the paper has inaccurate sizes ( as I have seen in other reviews). So if you want it to be exactly centred every time it isn't great. I ordered a replacement hoping it was just a faulty batch, but the second one I got had the same issue. But it is sturdy and I think it will be long lasting.
