Excellent Blu-ray burner and slightly better than competitor's models
I am that rare guy who backs up family photos and records on optical storage (CDs, DVDs, and Blu-Ray discs) as well as flash drives. Over the past twenty years of trying many different Pioneer (Japan), LG (Korea), and ASUS (China) DVD and Blu-ray burners, I have generally found the Pioneer models to be just a little bit better especially when it comes to reading dirty or scratched discs. How do I arrive at that conclusion? Well, ... I have a few discs from years ago that have fairly bad scratches on them that the LG and ASUS burners cannot read or read only poorly. With Pioneer, I have the less of these errors. Pioneer also has several different operation modes for their internal Blu-ray burners if you download and install the correct Drive Utility software. With the software, you can set the noise and reading levels giving you more control than with LG or ASUS. This model, the BDR-2213 will also burn M-Discs and Blu-ray triple and quad layered discs. I'm not sure that there is a disc format on the market that this model will not burn or read.As soon as I got this drive, I updated the firmware from 1.02 to 1.04 and then set my preferences in the Drive Utility software. Overall, very happy with my BDR-2213 (also called the BDR-213 ULBK), five stars so far.
