2005 Mercury Mountaineer 4.0
Fit great, had to reuse the factory gasket that is found between the thermostat housing and the water pump housing. as this one didn't have it. Super easy job. 3 or 4 bolts and move a few wires and voila! I torqued to german specs of "goodentight" and haven't had any issues since. Vehicle now gets up to operating temp as before it would not, leading me to believe that the old thermostat was stuck open.

Great for the price
I went to AutoZone and an auto parts store by where I live and everyone was quoting me about $100. I came on Amazon. I saw this one and I purchased it to give it a try to be honest the material is wonderful. It’s a good solid plastic piece because that’s what I was gonna get at AutoZone for 100 bucks so far it’s been about two months I think since I bought it and it’s working perfectly.

Works as advertised
Appears in all respects to be a quality replacement piece. Identical in all respects to the original function with one huge and beneficial difference:If you have the original housing still, it's going to fail. And given the age of the engines this goes into, if it hasn't yet its's going to soon. The problem with the original fitting is that it had two pots molded into it, one for the temperature sensor and a second that has a plug in it. Both of these ports are sealed with an O-ring that is squeezed between the body of the sensor/plug and the hole. Go through enough heat cycles and that O-ring will split and when it does, there's nothing left to hold that coolant in.This replacement comes with the same sort of fitting for the temperature sensor but the second port is sealed off as part of the molding process - no need for the plug. So at least that halves the number of places this housing will fail in the future.

Check the new thermostat before installing
This product arrives with the thermostat already bolted inside the housing. After installing the housing to my vehicle, added coolant, ran vehicle and checked for leaks. Good to go but car wasn't reaching correct operating temp. I let the car cool and opened up the housing and removed the thermostat. Found the thermostat canted at a 45 degree angle resulting in it staying in a half open position. Probably caused from the box being tossed around during shipping.Don't assume, like I did, that this part is plug and play. Open the housing and double check the thermostat before attaching it to your vehicle.
