It actually worked!!
I am feeling quite emotional right now. When my PS2 Slim stopped reading discs, I was worried it was beyond repair. However, after installing a new laser, not only does it read games again, but it also resolved another issue where the system incorrectly detected that the disc tray was open.Highly recommended!

Works on 75000 series despite warning
When looking up replacement lasers for 75000 series PS2s, PVR-802W was listed as compatible. Sure enough (despite the warning in the item description) it works great! I checked the potentiometers before installation and they were good as is. No adjustments were necessary. Although that may not be true for all of them, it was for mine. Now I’m able to play all the games in my library again! :)

Uh-oh my bad
I play 3 Jak & Daxter games on my ancient PS2, (model 70012, I'm guessing it's the 12th of the 7000 series?) that's all I play. Anyway, the laser went out and I bought this because replacement was cheap enough to at least try to see if it would fix the problem of erroring out and saying I'd removed the disc when I hadn't, then cuts cenes dropped, then black screen. I'm a 72 year old lady with no experience with electronic repairs at all! YouTube definitely helped even though none of them I watched had EXACTLY my PS2 slim model. When they say the screws are tiny they mean it! I ended up using the little philips head screw driver that came from an eyeglass repair kit I bought at the Dollar store for a buck. All I had was the silicone spray my garage door repairman gave me - sprayed onto a Qtip - to grease up the screw rod. That wasn't very good so make sure you have an actual 'grease' on hand and not a spray. The second time I opened the case I had real lithium grease that, on a Qtip, I spread on the screw rod. Maybe it didn't need it but if you have the case open might as well clean and grease as best you can. If your PS2 is not playing you have nothing to lose by purchasing this replacement laser. I AM SO HAPPY I DID. Now I can continue to play my favorite (and only) games. This laser replacement was fantastic and I'm so pleased with it. **EDIT** After replacing the laser I noticed an unusual sound as I played. I took the disc out and it had circular marks on it. After checking on YouTube again I found out that the orange band (that holds all the wires) that I removed when installing the laser lens was too high and was rubbing on the disc as it turned. A YouTube guy used double sided tape, blah, blah, blah but all I did was press it down to put a slight crease in the band until it stayed low. Works great now.

Worked perfectly; painless installation and no soldering required!
A few weeks back I bought a PS2 slim (75001 but this product can work on multiple slim models) from half-priced books to replace my old "Fat" model. When I got home to test it out I found that the laser unit could only read PS1 Discs. I tried all the usual steps; air dusting, a careful cleaning with isopropyl alcohol but alas, no dice. So, not wanting the thing to go to waste, I picked up this replacement. The installation process was very simple and straightforward, the guide I found on YouTube got me through the process in under 10 minutes. The best part about this particular laser unit is that the anti-static point that you may have read about needing to desolder has already been removed, so if you don't have a soldering iron there is no issue. I would, however, recommend using a set of Phillips eyeglass screwdrivers as the screws you are dealing with will be very, VERY small. After closing the console up, I plugged everything in, and tried out my test games (Syphon filter for PS1, Ace Combat 4 for PS2), each were read in under 5 seconds. The unit has been going strong ever since.Overall, this is a great unit to buy if you are having issues with disc read errors. The PS2 is a great piece of hardware with a stellar library, but many units are getting on in years and will start to have problems after awhile. That is why I'm so pleased to see an easy fix to one of the most common hardware issues on the system. This product will keep my console running for years to come.

Good product
Overall this was a great product and fit my ps2 perfect. I thought the laser was my issue but it ended up being the actual game disc… so I really didn’t need a replacement laser but it worked great after replacing anyways.

Pretty much unusable...
Let me get to the point quick: I ordered it and it's basically unusable. The red part I circled in the picture seemed to have come cracked as I was unable to screw that metal fin thing in. (I don't know what it's called but it basically allows the laser to slide in and out to read the disc.)That would've been bad enough but the part circled in blue seems to get stuck if pushed in all the way.Overall: Product quality may vary. This just means I might have to buy another laser from somewhere else.

Fixed PS2 that was having issues reading discs
Despite what the description says, you still need to desolder the solder blob on one end or it will not work. No big deal if you have a soldering iron. Installation was easy after following a YouTube video how to do it. That's my reasoning for 4 stars...5 stars if no desoldering was required and just .plug and play.
