Great buy! Better than Google!
This guide saved me a lot of headaches and helped me make decisions when I planned our 2024 trip to Greece. I even score big time when selecting a couple of the boutique hotels they recommended, as described, best locations. It also helped me decide on what islands to visit and how to go about transportation, rentals, tours, museums to visit, restaurants, historic places and bits of history. Lots of helpful tips you’ll never get in blogs or searching the internet. Love it! And hope these guides don’t die out before I do! 🤪

Very Thorough and Well Organized Travel Guide
Used this Guide to plan a trip to Greece. The Travel Guide was thorough and well organized. I like that some info was repeated from the summaries in the relevant sections that contained the details. Not everyone reads summaries. So, kudos, Lonely Planet

Disappointing & Useless
I am a big fan of Lonely Planet… that is why I pre-purchased this book 6 months before it was issued: Greece June 2023 Edition. Well, what a disappointment. It does not measure up to the September 21 edition. Why? Because it is lacking detail on mostly everything (hotels, restaurants, getting there, getting around, etc). For example, Crete in the 2021 edition had 54 pages; in the 2023 edition it has 44 pages. I encountered this same issue throughout the book… which led me to measure and compare the books thickness: 2021= 1 1/4 inch; 2023= 1 inch. Also, the page margins of the new edition fail to indicate the name of the city the page is about; while on the ‘21 version it would say for example: Crete - Iraklio. This is very helpful to see how many pages are dedicated to that particular city. I would have posted photos of the differences but I don’t want to infringe in copyrights.I don’t know what happened to the amazing Lonely Planet writers and editors. I’ll still be a customer… but next time I will pay more attention to the return policy. In this case it was 30 days… and I missed the opportunity to return this useless guide.Something I will do in the future is to buy the digital version of the book. This edition is $16.99 instead of $24.99. The link to download the book can be shared up to 10 times (I believe).

Not a travel guide (doesn’t include lodging or restaurants)
I’ve been buying lonely planet exclusively for all my trips all over the world for the last 25 years. I probably have 30 of the guides on my bookshelf but this is the first that has nothing on lodging or restaurants or outfitters. Couldn’t be less happy. This is just descriptions of the places to visit. Of course there is internet research that will supplement any trip but the whole idea of a guide book is to read where you want to stay, which company to take the sailing trip with, which restaurant not to miss—all while on the airplane or ferry where there may be no internet. I am so so disappointed in Lonely Planet. I will definitely not buy another product from them until they go back to what they did well for decades.

The new format is way less useful to plan travel
Lonely Planet's new format has added lots of colorful pictures and other bright and pretty graphics at the expense of useful information. The restaurant and hotel recommendations were almost nonexistent for most locations, and there was very little in the way of logistical information such as how to travel from A to B or how much things cost.I had to Google tons of information that normally would have been included in previous versions of the guidebook. I wanted to love this guidebook, and I have been using Lonely Planet guidebooks for years for over 40 countries. But given their new format, I suppose I'll just stick to Google and YouTube searches and save myself from carrying around what is essentially a heavy picture book.

Disappointing and Relatively Useless
Shockingly bad and off brand. They have sacrificed detail for color photos and flash which is absurd in a time where we can see photos of just about anything online. For some odd reason, in the northeast Aegean section, they organize it by city instead of island, which is absurd and incostient. Across the whole book, details about transportation, hotels, restaurants, museum costs and opening hours are missing. Although they could never be 100% accurate, it was at least a good gague of how much things cost and when things are open. LP Greece has gone from one of the best guidebooks to one of the worst. Sending it back tomorrow and will be using my 2018 version instead. Super disappointed.
