I have been using this tool on quarter and half-size sheet pans for several years and have not had a problem with damage to pans. In fact, it works great. The new version is different from mine in that the top jaw is much wider. could make it more difficult to pick up a round pan.

Q: Is this a good tool for lifting cast iron pans?

To answer your question I tried it on a 10" cast iron frying pan. It was not very comfortable because of the heavy weight of the pan and the narrow shape of the handle, and you might need a strong wrist to support that amount of weight. The 10" pan weighs 5 pounds. Yes, you can do it but I would consider other things. I think the tool works best for lighter weight pans.

Q: Would this be good to use? Hate using a fork to put holes in the dough

Yes,the dough docker is faster and easier than using a fork, and really helps the dough cook evenly.Prevents bubbles in pizza dough and eliminates a great deal of time in prepping pizzas.

Q: Will this work (grip) with a regular flat pizza pan and not a deep dish pan?

Also we use them at work but all our pans our rigid deep dish & we still use a spatula at times to support the weight until we get the pizza to a workable height on the table, cut & boxed. Of course that makes it ALMOST impossible for employees to look at their phones while "landing" a pizza but thems the breaks!
