It's a rod
Good rod, one thing to note though is it is covered in protective oil.

Not pure iron...
I ordered 3 of these so I could use them in electromagnet experiments. When they arrived, I compared them to some pure iron I got from another supplier... these have a darker appearance and they hold some residual magnetism. If you want true magnetically soft material, look elsewhere. I've been scammed.
