Lonely Planet has gone downhill
I have used Lonely Planet guides for over 20 years and travelled to about 30 different countries using them. In the last few years they have significantly declined in quality. This is the 4th guide I have bought in the new format and just like the other 3 there is a lack of useful information that I can use to plan a trip, I end up looking everything up online when it all used to be included in the book. Unfortunately, I think this is the last guide I will buy.

Disappointing new, hard to follow format that lacks detail
The 2023 edition of LP Brazil looks attractive at first sight with the new layout and graphics. Diving into it is quite disappointing as they’ve scrapped back on a lot of content and details (e.g on which street corner to take the bus) for what LP guides are known for. It only focuses on the main highlights (that you can get from googling), not in depth overview of the country. Ordered the 2022 edition as well which is like LP used to be. Avoid the 2023 edition if you can.

A dreadful update
This book is nothing compared to the old versions. The information is scare, with little detail on places and it talks about places it doesn't even show on an overview map. Practically no information on buses, which is still useful despite the internet, as it can be hard to find info online here (and we live here). It's poorly laid out too

No where near as good as the old format
I've been using Lonely Planet travel guides since 1989 but this new format is the worst thing to happen to them. Difficult maps to read, who thought it would be a good idea to put white roads on a light grey background? Lacking place's to stay for smaller towns, getting there and away sections for each town woefully incomplete or non existent. Rough Guide was always our second choice but if Lonely Planet carry on using this format then they will become our first choice. So disappointed!!!

Not a fan of the new format
Not for me. Gone are the useful maps and detailed recommendations of where to eat/stay, advice on transport options to/from cities. Instead it's filled with information about tours. It was of no use outside of Rio and São Paulo.
