Heirloom Quality
Easy to uses. Will last for years. No technology required, just strictly manpower. Was able to grind peppercorns. Neat little storage with lid. Easy to use, easy to clean, beautiful appearance, easy to clean, does not retain flavors of previously ground items when cleaned properly, easy to grip. No extra flavors imparted from the grinder. Love it and expect a lifetime of use. Heavy and durable.

Heirloom quality you can bequeath for generations.
The 3 inch grinder is really nice, efficient in turning about a tablespoon of spices into dust. If you plan on needing more they make a larger model that would be better. I’m a lover of cast iron so this is just perfect for indulging my cooking addiction. The time and use adding only beauty to a wonderful item.

Simple, easy to use!
Loving this item. It works really well for every day dry spice grinding.I'd advise using salt first to make sure all the factory grit and grim is gone. As with all cast iron items, if it needs to be washed, dry it completely, immediately, or it will rust. Rusted cast iron is completely salvageable so don't panic! Some salt, a couple of DROPS of neutral oil mixed into the salt, scrub with a dry paper towel to remove the surface rust, and wipe again after with a clean dry paper towel. You'll be good to go! DO NOT SEASON THIS! The process of grinding will ruin the seasoning. Save the effort.

Great pepper grinder except for the removal of the top layer of coating
I really like this pepper grinder. It's more pleasing than a mill and the aromas of pepper are really released by doing a fresh batch each time. My only complaint so far is the black coating comes off where the grinding takes place and it isn't clear from the reviews or the company website what that is. Some reviewers seem to think it is the actual cast iron grinding off, and others seem to think it is an oil seasoning baked onto the iron. I haven't been able to figure out the answer to that yet, but I keep trying periodically. I hope it's something non-toxic! Another issue brought up in reviews is rust if it gets wet or damp, but I've been keeping it dry and haven't encountered that yet.

Small Wonder
This works, plain and simple. Ideal for making smaller batches of your favorite spice blend or any dried spices. If you only need a small amount of spices then why grind up a big batch that will sit unused in a jar and become stale? I like it for making garam masala for a single dish. Fresh every time. Also perfect for grinding my spices for various bean and chicken dishes. This is easier for me to use than a traditional mortar and pestle because of the weight of the grinding piece and its efficiency in keeping the items being ground in contact with the grinding surface. Well made, great finish and easy to clean.

Easy and efficient grinder
The Zazzenhus cast iron grinder is the best method I’ve found (superior to a mortar and pestle) for grinding small seeds like caraway, mustard, etc. Just a few turns of the grinder are all it takes. It will handle the smallest amount of spices and seeds so it’s easy to always have fresh-ground ingredients. Made of heavy duty cast iron with a lovely wood top covering the storage chamber. In appearance it is unique so I leave it on the kitchen counter, and use it frequently. Love it!
