Q: Is it natural for this to give off a strong sulfuric odor when mixed with water?

I am not the expert on this but the salt put in water does release the sulfur compound from the salt because it is bound in the salt. Edible sulfur is beneficial to the human body. If you take some of the crystals orally you will get the benefit of the sulfur compound.

Hello! Thanks for your question... during the final roasting process (the 9th time) the temperature is increased much higher than previous roasting temperatures, and the result is a burnt salt that appears light to dark violet/purple, darkness of color varies with each handmade batch.

Great question! This is sea salt, packed and roasted inside bamboo tubes, then sealed with clay. The process of packing and roasting over intense heat/flames gets repeated 9 times.
