Ideal, quick on-off kneeboard for phones and tablets
This is exactly what I was looking for! A small, unobtrusive kneeboard (a small flat magnetic mount actually) that is small and easy to carry in my flight bag. With this mount, you can easily pop your phone or tablet on or off your knee in less than a second. Really handy if you want to take your phone off the mount and snap a quick photo. It's also easy to switch between devices. You don't have to adjust anything on the kneeboard to fit a different size device. Just plop it on and it sticks! The provided iron pieces will definitely provide a super-strong hold if placed inside your phone or tablet case as directed. I used a phone case with a MagSafe ring built in for my Samsung, and it makes for a very strong attachment. I tried an iPhone with the factory built-in MagSafe ring and it worked acceptably but perhaps not strong enough for aerobatics. For the iPhone I'd use the provided iron pieces inside a case.Another advantage of this system is that it provides good air ventilation around your device, important for cooling. The only negative I can think of is that the strap protrudes just slightly above the surface of the mount, causing a larger device to not be able to contact the surface directly. This might make for a less secure hold than if the back of the device could contact the mount surface directly.

Amazing magnetic kneeboard!
I recently purchased a new iPad and case which led me to needing a new kneeboard/holder for the iPad. For reference I use the iPad Air 6th gen 11 inch with a zugu case. I wish I would have found this knee board for my prior iPad. This thing is so simple and sleek and works amazing. The magnets are strong enough to hold the iPad in turbulence and paired with the zugu case you do not need to mount a metal plate to the case or the iPad. I used the knee board less than 3 hours before my instrument Checkride. You can turn the iPad whichever direction best suits your needs and if you need to get the iPad out of the way quickly, it’s as easy as a quick tug and tuck it away. My designated pilot examiner was so impressed he said he was going to order one for use in the jets he flys. If you are a pilot of any type that uses an iPad, do yourself a favor and order a Dream Pilot kneeboard. I fly a Mooney M20F and have no issues with space using the 11 inch iPad with the Dream Pilot kneeboard! For fit, I often get called chicken legs or told I am too skinny. The elastic Velcro strap has no issues snugging up tight on my lower thigh just above my knee. You could also strap it up higher on your thigh and mount the bottom of the iPad to it. It is very versatile, user and pilot friendly. It also comes with a nice drawstring bag to store it while not in use. I’ll probably be buying a second one for passengers to use.

Great iPad solution!
Was looking for a kneeboard attachment for my iPad for General Aviation (small plane) use. Needed one that I could use existing cover with, and allow me to detach the iPad so I can slip in my flight-bag without the knee attachment. This did the job. The magnet is strong enough to grab the iPad with the cover opened and folded over the back of the iPad (I keep a cheat sheet on the inside cover, so wanted to be able to access it). It is strong enough to stay on your knee during maneuvers, but not strong enough where you have to pull on it to get it off. I do find the strap a little long for my leg, as when I cinch it up, the Velcro attachment ends up being a little too long to attach the grab strip, and end interferes with the iPad, so I have to wear it slightly looser than I like. The Velcro is also a little on the strong side, so getting it off takes a little extra effort. I think adding a strap length adjustment would be good, and maybe a little weaker Velcro might both improve the design, but overall, I really like it.

Good Concept - Design Flaws (Updated at bottom of entry)
Great for using a smart phone. Marginal, at best, for a tablet.I fly corporate and needed a new kneeboard for my new iPad. This concept appeared to be a good solution compared to my old kneeboard. The old one worked well for me, but it was a bit bulky. This item can hold an iphone perfectly, but the weight of an ipad overwhelms it. Like most pilots, I have a protective cover on my ipad which adds weight to it. To use this kneeboard with a cover-protected ipad you will have to afix the included metal plates to the OUTSIDE of the cover in order for it to hold the weight. I tried the metal plates inside the cover (between the ipad and the cover) and the magnetic attraction is insufficient to adequately hold the ipad in place.Additionally, the design of the magnetic holder is flawed for an ipad - while it is perfect for an iphone. The holder is designed such that it is flat and when the strap is fed through the piece, the straps are higher than the magnetic surface causing the ipad to "ride" on the straps instead of sitting flat on the magnetic surface. The designer has included a slot that is lower than the magnetic surface, but it is not slotted enough to allow the ipad to rest flat on the magnetic surface. With a slight redesign moving the strap slots a bit lower, it would work better for an ipad.My solution was to modify both this product and my ipad cover. I removed additional material from the strap slots mentioned above which allows better contact with the mag surface and, since I don't use the ipad cover retractable rest on the back (which allows resting on a desk in landscape format), I modified that part which allowed me to install the metal plates inside that compartment. It appears that the magnet in this item is round. A better choice would have been a square or rectangular magnet. Also, making the magnet case wider than the strap would add stability to the ipad when in use. It is currently very "floppy" on your leg due to the weight of the ipad. Again, ideal for an iphone.I had to tie a knot in the strap to reduce its length - it is simply too long unless you have large diameter legs. I would say this item is especially unsuited for a female with slender legs - unless you tie multiple knots or double it over and have it sewn by a seamstress.UPDATE - I love it when I can write a review update that is good news. I was contacted by the company CEO and we have corresponded several times. Excellent, proactive customer service!!When I received the kneeboard, I didn't realized that the plastic part through which the strap is passed before tightening and securing MUST be near the magnetic plate. How close? About 2 inches before stretching to tighten. By having this plastic part near the magnetic plate, the excessive length issue mentioned above was solved. It should fit even slender legs with no problem. Additionally, this change also solved the floppiness problem. The ipad is now stable on my leg.I am still working another issue, but that problem is with the ipad case and not with the Dream Pilot kneeboard strap.I changed my rating from 2 stars to 4 stars. As I use this kneeboard during the next 4-6 weeks, I may raise the rating again.
