OceanSignal rescueME PLB1 - Programmed for UK Registration

I do a fair bit of sea kayking on my own. This is a reassurance kit, together with VHF and led flares. Also, when I go into real wilderness it should be handy, although in rain forests you will need a clear skyline, I suspect.Clear instruction booklet. Compact and nifty. Its easiest to register online. Who knows when I'll have to use it!

The people from globaltelesat UK are absolutely amazing. The out most care packing the product, all the necessary information in the pack. Very helpful in explaining the registration procedure. Took all the necessary steps to ensure that the product will work in Cyprus. They even replied on a Sunday to a question of mine. The PLB exactly as described, with a fresh battery, very compact with all the necessary mounts and float pouch. I'm a solo surfski paddler and this PLB fits perfectly in my lifejacket. I purchased the ME406 for cross-channel flights but as it is now a requirement to have a PLB on-board at all times, it has become a permanent addition to my flight bag.Other reviewers have noted the features of the unit. I will only add that unlike some other units a buoyant case is provided. It's a snug fit and it has a belt loop. Operation couldn't be easier: extend the antenna and push a button. The only thing that gives me pause is wondering if I could extend the antenna with one hand, or two broken hands. Given that these units are to be used in the most dire of circumstances, it is something to consider.Thankfully, so far, I haven't had to put this little unit to the test (and I hope I never do).

This is a product that's hard to review, as you hope you never will have to use it. For compactness it's perfect. I use it on the mountains and it gives me that perfect peace of mind, when you are out of mobile coverage, which is nearly all the time in remote areas. If ever I do have to activate it, I will update the review on its effectiveness.

I bought the PLB as Iam a very keen Kayaker, although I do try to go out with friends there are times I go on my ownhaving the PLB with me gives you peace of mind.Also I go walking and take it with me incase of an accident..

The product is claimed to have a 7 year lifespan. When mine arrived it said expiry Sept 2024 (3 years from now).This is part of a much bigger problem - PLBs are quite the scam because they don't allow users to replace the batteries.It also means that anyone stocking them has to move them on soon or negotiate something with their supplier. I can't fight that battle for them, but I'm not going to accept something that is supposed to have a 7 year lifespan that actually clearly states it only has 3, so will be returning.
