Q: How do you get the bolt to go higher up on the thread?

You can add an extra nut to it to make the shaft longer and the bottom shaft shorter

Q: My traction boards only have a circle hole will it still fit?

By circle, I assume that you mean that your boards have round holes. These will not work unless you use a Dremel or other tool to make the mounting holes the same shape as these mounts. I did that with mine, but found that they were not long enough for me to properly secure my boards to these pins. You should try a different style of pin.
