A great buy.
I have never really wanted to read Charles Dickens, or watch any TV productions of his work, thinking all of his work to be miserable and depressing. The reason I bought this was just to give myself a VERY basic idea of what one or two of his books were about. This is a children's book obviously so it really is basic and simple to read. However, I really enjoyed reading through it and finally understanding the main plot from these different works. There is a section about Charles Dickens' life that actually sparked some real interest in me. I have since sent for a selection of his books and have discovered that I love the way he writes, also it isn't all misery afterall. I am old enough to have grand children so feel a little ashamed that my introduction to Charles Dickens' work has been this children's book but it has taught me what I have been missing. The illustrations are lovely and for me, added to the enjoyment. I feel that this book would be a very good place to start in encouraging young readers to explore what I now believe to be one of our great authors.

A Great Introduction to Dickens for Young Readers
This book contains five stories, Oliver Twist, Bleak House, Great Expectations, A Tale of Two Cities and David Copperfield. In addition there is a story about the life and times of Charles Dickens. Each story is about 70 pages long, with illustrations on nearly every page and the tales are told in an entertaining manner, making this book an ideal introduction to Dickens for young children. Moreover, the pages and binding are of good quality so it should last a long time.

Great introduction to the classics for children.
Perfectly abridged and illustrated for children to get the gist of the stories. There is just enough of each novel in here for children to be hooked into the story. My boys aged 7 and 8 have enjoyed reading these, and listening to chapters as a bedtime story and I can imagine (hope) that they will remember the stories when they are older and read the real thing.I ordered from Woeld of Books and it arrived promptly, in very good, used condition.

Nice book
Read this with my children and think it is a nice introduction to the stories of Dickens, I was inspired by all the Dickens on TV and wanted to share a master storyteller with them. They enjoyed the stories but were concerned about the amount of death and misery - a good introduction to the harsher side of life in Victorian Britain. The stories deal with death very matter of factly and are certainly not gory and do not dwell on the subject but in keeping true to the originals they need to be kept in. Would definitely recommend but maybe not for younger children or those that may be more sensitive.

Good first read of Dickens for kids.
My son doesn't take interest in any book with no illustrations. This book has lots of colourful full page illustrations, very simply written with small chunks of the story abridged. I started him at nine years old on his Dickens' discovery but this book can be useful to an even younger kid who loves to read. Or as a bedtime story for a parent to read out. I would recommend this as a good, simple beginning for anyone wanting to start their kids on Dickens.
