Great advance warning bleep.
Brilliant, even has a warning bleep before cooking time is over so that you have time to finish what you are doing elsewhere without fear of food spoiling.

Simple & efficient timer
The usual excellent count up and countdown features. I see that this latest timer now incorporates a spring under the battery, which should prevent the very occasional power loss experienced with previous models. Easily readable display.

Reliable and easy to use
I use these (I have two) to time items that I am cooking. This is my second purchase. The first pair lasted several years until I dropped them on the floor. They still worked but the stand was broken. They have a magnet on the back to stick on the fridge as well as a plastic stand which allows them to stand on a surface. The display is not illuminated so need to be placed in the light. The alarm is quite loud enough as long as you are in the same room. There is a short beep at 10 minutes to go and longer at 5 minutes to go then continuous beeps for several minutes when finished. Quite easy to set the time in hours and minutes, stop, start and reset. You can tell when it is running as the dots flash.

Perfect apart from one minor detail
This is one of those gadgets that just does what you want (and need). It isn't overly complicated, sticks nicely to my fridge and tells me when time is up with a clear and continuing set of beeps. It also has 2 other features I hadn't bought it for but now find useful:1. It will sound a short beep 10 and 5 minutes before time is up. This is actually quite useful as I know when to start preparing whatever follows on.2. It will also provides a count up feature. So for anything that requires a short interval I can simply monitor the time (in seconds).Almost perfect. Sadly, it also lacks one feature that I just wish someone had thought of:When you set the time and press the start button it will begin counting down. There is even a visual clue that it has started by way of the flashing hour:minute separator. Unfortunately when in a rush, with typically greasy, or floured hands, its too easy to not quite press the start button cleanly, and if you don't check for the flashing separator....... Oops another burnt offering! It would have been really useful to have had a confirmation beep when pressing the start button. In the meantime I'm learning to double check for the visual indicator. Not a deal breaker, just a little annoying.

Works OK, but more confusing than it should be
This timer, like the Salter one I owned before it, can function both as a countdown timer or a stopwatch (count-up, if you like). However, the display is different depending on which mode you are using. When counting down, it displays hours and minutes, but no seconds. It goes up to a maximum of 19 hours 59 minutes. This is OK, although personally I would have preferred it to display minutes and seconds as my old timer did (it went up to 99 minutes). I miss having the seconds displayed, because there's no visual indicator that the timer is even working. When counting up, though, it displays minutes and seconds instead. This is kind of confusing, because it means you can't really know what time it says at a quick glance, unless you remember which direction it's counting. HOWEVER, the thing that really caught me out is that it only counts up to 19 minutes 59 seconds, then resets to zero and continues counting up. This really caught me out the first time I used it.Personally when I'm cooking, I always tend to use the count-up mode rather than the countdown, because I like to just use it as a visual guide to how long something has been cooking for. I'm in the habit of just putting something in the oven and hitting the 'start' button on my timer, but this timer is pretty much useless for that, because if you come back after an hour and 45 minutes it will just say 5 minutes. Fine for boiling an egg, but useless for roasts.I honestly thought it was faulty and was preparing to return it, but then I finally figured out what was happening. Now that I know, I'll just stick with countdown mode.Otherwise, I have no complaints. The magnet sticks it conveniently to the fridge door, the alarm is loud enough to hear from upstairs, and the display is easy to read, once you've figured out what the display units are.

Couldn't manage with this hours and minutes timer.
A replacement for an identical timer which malfunctioned after around 5years of daily use. Hopefully, this replacement will last just as long.Easy to use and has a reminder 15 minutes before the timer is due to end. Good clear display.
