Superb Book!
This was the first book I have ever read by Brandon Sanderson and I am so glad it was. Throughout the whole adventure I was hooked and just didn't want to put the book down once I really started to get into it. If you're new to Brandon Sanderson's writing then definitely check this book out and give it a try.Since finishing this book, I have now moved onto his Mistborn series and I am so captivated by the world he's created. Superb writing.

Tress of the emerald sea
What a gorgeous & sumptuous read. A whole different voice Brandon Sanderson’s conjures up, taking us on a ride that starts with quiet comfort; a reflection on the beauty of the mundane. Building into a far reaching adventure, backing the boldest and best of human virtues. With wonderful twists and newly imagined world at first terrifying, but as with all/most things, a bit of knowledge well applied changes everything.I don’t think I’ve highlited a book so much before! for both the almost off hand deep insights into human nature as well as the laugh out load humour. From one satisfied and delighted reader to I hope soon to be another.

Fairytale whimsy
This book is best described as a gender-swapped Princess Bride. If you liked the film (more so than the book, since this doesn't have anything to compare to all the "Morgenstern's Estate" stuff Golding goes in for there) then you should like this too. It has the same slightly askew romanti-comical feel to it.Although it does have some Sanderson-style logic/rules-based magic, it is also rather more fluid and dreamlike than his other stuff. "The Seethe" for example is very convenient but is completely unexplained. My biggest gripe is with the UK publisher, as they omitted (for cost-saving reasons? legal issues?) the bespoke artwork which the US edition has, and which is specifically referenced by Sanderson in his introduction. I mean, if we just wanted the words we would have bought the kindle edition. Poor show. Otherwise well worth a read.I could imagine someone not liking it, but that someone wasn't me.

Quirky, fun and entertaining
A lovely tale of adventure with fantastic world building and I loved the witty and quirky story telling. I feel it succeeded in being very similar to the princess bride in style and I very much enjoyed it

Modern fantasy with a twist
Spoilers ahead!Let's start with Tress. What a truly kind and selfless hero. Her arc from naïve girl to commanding woman was a pleasure to read. The magic system was fresh whilst still feeling like a cosmere magic system due to the "push and pull" of the spores and how they react to different metals. Their reactions to perception or connection are a theme that is prevalent throughout the cosmere. We had nods to Mistborn, Storm light archive and warbreaker, but just enough to make fans of the cosmere happy without NEEDING the cosmere to prop this book up. The story was beautiful, like a fairy tale of old. The twist that the sorceress was hiding advanced technology on a preindustrial planet was something I didn't see coming until it was right in my face. Also the fact that Fort now has an advanced technological tablet will surely propel technology leaps and bounds? The twist with Huck, sorry Chuck, sorry Charlie was something I called around a quarter of the way in. I was very satisfied with myself for that. I can't wait for any future entries from Tress and the crew.

Brilliant, genius, delightful.
One of the greatest fantasy writers in the history of the English language delivers another astoundingly well written book, full of beautiful insights, delightful lines, and an incredibly unique world.I must have highlighted around twenty passages in this book. Some just for the brilliance of the writing, and some for the profound insight into the human condition.I’ve been reading fantasy all my life, but I’ve never read a book that made me sigh in pleasure the way this book has. The way it’s written… the way Brandon plays with the words, like they’re dancing for him. It’s so beautiful to read. This is the writing equivalent of a skateboarder doing an impossible trick after they already won the competition. They do it because they can, because it’s fun, and it’s amazing to witness.I read this in two sittings, and I’m amazed I was able to put it down at all. It will certainly not be the last time I read it. What a world. What a writer.

The cosmere gets whimsical and funnier than ever before
A fun and charming tale narrated by hoid, this is a fun and fluffy book that you can tell isn't taking itself to seriously, great world building and magic system you have come to expect from sanderson, a nice pallet cleaner if your moving between series.

Enchanting and Charming... Encharming?
What a lovely book!I have read Elantris, Warbreaker, all of the Stormlight Archive books currently available (including the spinoffs) and the first era of Mistborn.Tress has the usual Sanderson feels, the epic escalation 70ish% through, the measurable and distinct magic system, the amazing character development. But it also had a charm that reminded me of reading Sir Terry Pratchett by torchlight as a child with a sprinking of the swashbuckling adventures of "red seas under red skies" (Scott Lynch). Loads of easter eggs if you are an avid Sanderson reader! Top tier fantasy in my opinion!
