Very slick design, fast delivery and it does exactly what it says on/in the box
Just received the Hub 5 today and having read a few of the negative reviews here, most of which I would put down to user error or plain bad luck. I decided to ignore the manual, basic though it is and just connect it up. My previous hub 3 and openreach kit was pulled out and the new hub put in it's place. My PC is connected via cable, don't see the point of a wireless connection for something that never moves :).. I connected the phone line and the power, connected the cable for my PC and powered it upWiFi connection appeared on my Samsung S5, connected in seconds and working wellPC was just as simple, al I got was a dialog box saying the computer was connected to a network, I chose Home Network and boom... all doneSamsung TV, on the network, no faffing about with settings. Never used Smart Setup and the rant about BTBroadband Help installing without given any choice in the matter, not sure what that was all aboutFor now, it is running perfectly and I am happyAs for reliability, stability, having only had it connected for about an hour now, Who knows.. The WiFi signal is certainly far better, I can even use the phone in the garage at the other end of the garden, about as far away from the house as I can get , without leaving the premises, could never do that with the Hub 3My reason for upgrading, had nothing to do with hoping for faster upload/download speeds or more reliable wifi.. It was more to do with keeping things simple.. Getting rid of two bits of kit and the extra cabling required and trimming it down to one piece of kit, just looks better.Yes, if you are already with BT, you can get one for only £50.. but I wanted it fast, so happy to pay the extra

Good fibre router
Works fine. If you are using it for Plus.Net, the first thing you will be told is there an internet connection problem. However, once you get past this initial message and into the settings system (a bit tricky to fine - the instructions dont help), and set everything up, then it all works fine.Wireless connectivity seems to be good - have had no dropouts or disconnections. I cant test the speed unfortunately due to currently using an old and slow Linux machine (which gives incorrect speed for obvious reasons). As previously mentioned, the instructions aren't much cop - whilst they do tell you what the different coloured lights mean, they dont tell you how to change any settings.Settings are basic - nothing really complicated or complex. One nice thing is that the standard router web password is not "admin" or variations thereof - instead a pretty strong password is used instead.

A big improvement on the HomeHub 4
I have bought this to replace my HH4, to get an improved WiFi signal and speed. I was also hoping that it would replace my other box. Well it didn't replace the other box because that's a white interface for the Infinity signal, which is a shame, but that can be wall mounted and so is now out of the wayand out of sight. The HH5 is excellent, although you will need to get into the settings to increase your wireless speed. It is very easy to do and now my wireless connection is operating on a 37mbits download speed, which is exactly the same as the Cat5 wired connection. The signal quality has improved to giving a better coverage.Obviously you can't blame the router if the signal runs diagonally through a wall. That increases the wall thickness significantly and will relate to a drop in signal. Saying that there is now a signal all over the house where there were some black spots with the HH4.It's easy to setup, a big improvement on speed and coverage, so if you are looking for any of these improvements get one!

Absolutely hopeless
This is the second BT Home Hub 5 that I have bought for my Infinity service and I have had to replace it for exactly the same reason. After initial set up it works fine for a period of time and then begins to lose the wifi connection (although the ethernet connection to my desktop still works as normal). Following advice from an internet forum I separtely named the 2.4GHz and 5.0 GHz channels and found that I could connect in all cases to the 5.0 channel. However, most of the devices in my home work on the 2.4 band and this required me to regularly reboot the router - sometimes three times in a day - to restore the wifi link. I have now switched to a TP-Link TD-W9980 VDSL router and this has solved the problem. It works perfectly and has a much stronger signal and far better coverage than the BT unit,

Little actual gain over my basic router
Have split the two channels (2.4Ghz & 5Ghz) with separate names so can see which I am logged in to. Most of my 6 devices tend to find the lower speed channel and I usually have to force them to the higher speed where they are compatible - few are. I don't find much advantage in downloading at the higher speed so a bit of a disappointment although there will be less interference from surrounding wifi signals due to the numerous channels. I think the last half mile of copper cable kills most of the advantage of going with broadband.

Good wifi but modem is BT only
The description on Amazon does not mention the very important fact that this only works as an ADSL modem if you use BT Broadband. Amazon should amend this without delay as it is useless as a modem to the majority of people. On the other hand the wifi is excellent so I am using it as an eccess point, hence it gets no points for its main function but some for what it does well.
