TMS Automatic Door Bottom Seal - Heavy Duty Metal Door Sweep with Neoprene Bulb Door Seal - 1" Drop - Fully Mortised (36 Inches)

Pretty straight forward but a couple of installation notes.First, instructions say to cut the door bottom the same length as the door. It should be cut 1/16" short to allow an easy mortise of the door bottom side covers. If your door is tight before you begin. the covers will scrape against the jamb without them being mortised with a hand chisel.Secondly, the mortise cut for the door bottom should use a 15/16" straight router bit to a depth of 1-1/4" and a 5/8" straight router bit should be used for an additional 7/16" depth to accommodate the narrower top part of the automatic door bottom. The covers need wood to screw into and a full 15/16" mortise removes the wood where the screws would be screwed into. I found this out on the first install and had to use epoxy to fill the void so I could attach the cover plates.I used a full sized Bosch router and two Bosch edge guides that were snug and centered on the middle if the door bottom. I routed vertically because the edge guides aren't very deep and didn't want the router to tip, if done horizontally, and mess up my door. The setup takes much longer than the router cuts, so take your time and double check that everything is secure and centered.Once setup, you can bang a bunch of these out in a relatively short time with doors that are all the same thickness.I installed one on our bedroom door and another on our home theater door. Huge sound difference since I took the time to insulate staggered stud wall cavities prior to drywall.

We installed some new flooring and in the process of leveling the floor - we had to take off the door sweep so that is would open properly, but that left a BIG air gap at the bottom of the door. I first heard about these door mechanisms from "Ask this Old House" (ASK This Old House | Drafty Door, Clean Paintbrushes (S16 E25) FULL EPISODE - About 8:20 into the clip). The big challenge for me was cutting the mortus required for a hidden installation. I took the door to our local "The Door Store" and they did a great job. Brought the door home and installed all the hardware. IT WORKS GREAT. Nice not having the ants march one by one (under the door) to get out of the rain.

Wow this was a pain in the butt to install, but it works and looks amazing! I live in a condo and can't change the look of the outside of my front door, so this was the only feasible alternative to those cheap sliding foam door sweeps. The construction feels very solid and the mechanism is smooth - no one knows it's there unless I point it out. Just keep in mind you need a solid door and professional tools. A local woodworking shop crafted a jig and routed it; a metal chop saw worked well to trim it a small amount to fit in a 35-7/8" with end plates. Another thing to keep in mind is that it can clearly handle angles/slants in the frame no problem, but can't seal gaps caused by waves, divots, or similar, curved imperfections.The drop adjustment was easy, but no way of knowing if it will stay put over time. If anything changes, I'll update this review.

a residential door might be 1 3/8" or so. this thing is way to wide for that. Install is difficult, my trim carpenter for new construction couldn't figure it out. I never could find instructions either for how to make it drop automatically when door closes. Regret.

Despite arriving sealed and new-in-packaging, the product is missing a very important piece: the gasket (see pictures). The product listing shows the gasket, as seen highlighted in red in first attached photo. However, upon receiving the sealed, unopened product, it did not contain this part. As such, its ability to create an air seal between faces of the door is entirely compromised, as well as any “soundproofing” capabilities.In reviews for other similar products (different lengths) by same manufacturer I am now seeing similar complaints about the same part missing. It’s upsetting to see that after several years, these products are still being sold without the shown parts from the listing.Update:I contacted the manufacturer, to which they seemed very surprised (though I'm unsure how, as this issue has been reported in the reviews of these products since at least 2019). They told me order replacement through Amazon. I received the replacement, which like its predecessor, is also missing the same gasket/seal. I will contact the company again and will update this review if the issue is addressed. Until then, it's a safe assumption the entire batch is missing this critical part.

I've just received this and I'm really disappointed. I wanted it to be as awesome as it looks but I can't see how it will stop drafts. Once the door is closed and the metal bar the neoprene seal is attached to gets pushed down, the draft from outside will just go up and over the bar. There's a tiny seal at the top of that metal bar but once the bar is pushed down the seal doesn't make contact with anything. I even called the manufacturer but they weren't able to convince me that it would work for me, so I'm returning it.I'm giving this product three stars instead of zero because I love the hidden aspect of the design. If they could just add effective seals that will work when the door is closed it will be a five-star product.
