Kenwood mini chopper CH180 Blade/lid assembly

I managed to shred the plastic on my last blade trying to cut up some nuts which was a bit beyond its capabilities. The reaplcement blade and lid fitted perfectly and the chopper is as good as new. Saved me a few quid.

My Kenwood mini chopper has been once of the most useful gadgets in my kitchen and I've used it many times for mixed herbs and even shredding bread to make breadcrumbs.However I was dismayed to discover that the internal plastic drive socket had split and although the drive shaft was spinning, the blade no longer turned. Must admit that I half expected to have to buy a new machine so i was more than a little surprised to discover this spare part on the Amazon website.The new blade also seems to have a slightly beefed up plastic socket so I am hoping it should last a bit longer than the original. Also, whilst the new blade works with the existing sealed lid, the new lid supplied has a handle aperture for being able to bleed in liquids when the chopper is in use so a double whammy as far as I am concerned.

I was expecting to have to buy a replacement for my Kenwood mini chopper when I dropped and broke the lid. As it is a relatively cheap item, and as it's at least 3 years old, I never ever thought of looking for a replacement lid, but when I searched mini choppers this came up & I couldn't believe my luck. A new blade is apparently necessary as the lid assembly is slightly different from the original, but that is a plus as it's just like having a new appliance. I wish more manufacturers sold replacement parts so cheaply and readily- it's really annoying to have to throw something away just because a bit of plastic broke off!

I was pleased that I could replace the blade with the split shaft without having to replace the whole unit. The feed hole is a bonus.

My 3-year-old Kenwood mini chopper appears to be 'as good as new' since I replaced the blade - I had been using the original one after carefully taping the broken plastic that engages the blade to the drive spindle - I didn't realise how much I would miss it after it broke. My only niggle is that, since I didn't need a replacement lid, I would have preferred to buy the blade on its own at a lower price. However, I understand that the replacement blade is a slightly different fit for some models of this mini-chopper, so would need the lid supplied to ensure correct functioning - although this wasn't the case for mine.

I loved the little Kenwood mini chopper gizmo. i used it for everything. After about 6 years of brutal use, the plastic bit inside the blade spindle gave out. I mended it and it went on for another year or so with an epoxy paste mend. The motor was and is still good. Then the mend bit the dust, grinding brazil nuts.!!!. Heartbroken, i put the entire machine out for the dustman. But then I saw the replacement part on amazon, and with the new lid, all for less than a tenner, I have my machine back again. A case of reincarnation.

Fits machine perfectly. Shame I only needed the lid but had to order new blade as well! However, speedily delivered, well packaged and does what it is supposed to. Prevented having to buy a new machine though pricey in comparison to new machine costs.

I was glad to find a replacement for the cracked original, but not pleased that the design of the original meant it did not last that long - the plastic comes brittle after a year or two. So it is likely that the replacement will fail in a similar way.
