Q: Does it have pockets?

Yes. Two back pockets - each is 5" wide x 2" deep each. Snug fit for iPhone 5. One front pocket 6.25" wide by 3-4" deep. The opening is slightly angled so one side is a little deeper. Easily accommodates iPhone 5. I don't know if it will hold anything larger than that,

Q: Are the pockets in the pictures just for "looks" or are they real?

Like a lot of dress pants, the pockets are sewn shut when you receive them, and you just have to cut the threads to access the pockets.
