My daily commute to work & back is 80 miles and my lower back (age 56) is paying the price. I got this to help with that. I have only used this 3 times, 30 minutes a day and it's going to take longer than what I've used it for, so far, to see results. The near infrared is supposed to have a deeper effect on body tissue, so I'm using that along with the 10 Hz pulsating. No info is included as far as medical issues with this unit, as the rest of the red light devices I've tried. You need to Google on your own for research. I will say Hooga is known as a quality brand of red light devices, so I trust this one more than an Alibaba product from a 3rd party seller (there are lots of those here). At the same time, Hooga is based out of Wisconsin, but this is made in China. I've done a lot of research and even the very expensive red light panels are also made in China, probably all by the same company, unfortunately. You are supposed to use this on bare skin. Even though I knew the measurements, it looks smaller "in person". The cord with the controls needs to be longer from the mat to the other cord, it makes it difficult to see what button I'm pushing because you're supposed to put the mat where you want it to be before turning it on. I didn't notice any neoprene odor with this one, unlike the cheaper no-name brands sold here. There is also no clear plastic on top of this mat. There are no goggles included, which you really need for eye protection. Trust me.I'll update this weekly to let you know, because these sort of reviews are more helpful to ME when I come across one. Not a "works great!!!" review.UPDATE: This really did help with my issues. But after running this past my primary care dr., she didn't like that the LED lights rest directly on the skin, as with all the belts & mats sold here. But she fully recommended a red light panel that sits 4-6" from me. So I purchased one and that will be reviewed later on. I still think this is fine for most people though, so I'm not dropping the star rating. Between the time I returned this and waiting for the new panel to arrive, I could feel my back issues returning, so this DOES WORK~!UPDATE #2: I'm not going to listen to my dr., after trying a small panel (it fried my bathroom GFCI), and trying the LifePro Pro Torch, this Hooga is still the BEST. So I'm reordering it. I wish I had never returned the first one. I'm still keeping the LifePro torch, because I can see it being useful for a small area, like a wrist or finger, but the Hooga is best for the back and larger areas. The Hooga has the best irradiance levels, etc., like they really know what they're doing.UPDATE #3: I'm still using this. Recently found out I have spondy and it helps with inflammation. I'm also going to physical therapy but not for much longer. I'm sure happy I have this. Versatile...using this on my face also and I am sure it's helpful for collagen production and wrinkles. Face time only takes 3 minutes every other day. Better than using a LED mask meant for a face.Great investment. Also I've contacted Hooga CS by email a few times with questions and they respond the same day.

Love it
I originally got this for my husband's knee and back pain, but I've since used it for period cramps, and it works!! The remote is kind of hard to figure out at first. It requires you to hit 4 different buttons to set everything before turning the timer on, but once you've done it a few times, it's pretty simple. I use it multiple times a week and have noticed improvement.

Not happy
Does not produce enough light to work properly. Size really small battery pack heavy falls of mat, very sensitive to touch.

A Further Comment on the Instructions
THE GOOD: This is a really excellent product with therapeutic intensity at the high end of good (110mW/cm^2) and a lot of useful adjustability. As other reviewers have noted, it readily conforms to the contours of the body in order to wrap around and treat an individual body part from most or all sides. The combination control panel and rechargeable battery that snaps onto the belt with four magnetic connectors appears to be robust and well constructed.THE BAD: Use of the control panel interface is NOT intuitive, and the instructions provided are woefully inadequate. This resulted in a great deal of confusion and frustration to the point that I briefly considered returning the thing. It would appear to turn on then quickly turn off all by itself or not turn on at all or not turn off at all. I finally sat down with the thing and systematically experimented with the controls. It took me the better part of an hour to demystify the control interface and figure out how to make the device do exactly what i wanted it to do on the first attempt every time.I then wrote up a set of operating instructions for my wife - and to fix in my own mind how to make this thing dance. Once you actually understand the control interface it is actually a joy to use. I just ordered two more.I am attaching my operating instructions for the benefit of anyone who might be interested. (Hope they will be legible.)For what it is worth, I have been using a wide variety of NIR devices for many years with what I believe to be great success.I would like to amend my review by adding that this is a five star product with one star instructions. When I last checked, the product had received 11% one star reviews on Amazon, the majority of which are from people who lacked the patience or perseverance to decipher the staightforward but non-intuitive user interface. The inadequate instructions not only frustrate purchasers but likely harm the manufacturer as well. I intend to contact Hooga directly to point out this deficiency, and I would encourage others who may have struggled as I did to get this nice little device to do what they want it to do to do likewise.

4 Month Update
I am very happy with this belt and the company. Ordered for my Mom and she said it is very helpful and she can tell a difference when she uses it. It has helped her be more active with less pain. It’s well made and easy to use. The company is fantastic answering my questions and responded quickly. Very happy with purchase.4 month update-I have purchased 2 more belts for my husband and I. To the 1 star review saying this is China peddled trash. Yes I see a lot of sketchy, poorly made red light items that I would not purchase. YouTube has a channel with a man names Alex Fergus that does in depth testing on reputable brands and gives you recommendations. Hooga Health is one he regularly tests. I purchased a PlatinumLED wall unit because of him and am still very happy with it a year later. The belts are great to keep by the couch and to take with me when I travel. The only negative I have found with this is the two hour wait time after using it for 30 minutes. I had hoped to use it on multiple areas and longer than 30 minutes at a time.

Works well, controls a bit fussy to master.
I used this to help heal my broken ankle...... and it helped and then hubby grabbed it for his back.
