Yes, it makes sound both inhaling and exhaling. You can also make a cool sound by reversing the air suddenly mid-blow.

Q: I would like to have this laser engraved. What type of metal is the housing made of?

I just tried a magnet on it, and it's non magnetic. I doubt if it's stainless steel, but it very well could be. In my experience whistles are generally made of brass and then nickel plated.

Q: What to use to clean innards?

I've never had to clean the inside. It does appear to get stuck after not being used for a while, then I just give it an extra hard blow and it seems to be ok again.

Q: At times, this does not work... and then at other times, it works perfectly. What's going on?

Hi there: The spinner that makes the sound, is on an adjustable axis. I opened my whistle up and placed a very light small drop of watch oil on the spindle. I backed the axel spindle adjustment screw out, turn to the left, just a tad. Put it back into the silver part and give it a try. Remember, just a small amount of oil or adjustments. My whistle did the same thing.
