BBQ Tool
This cane knife makes an excelent BBQ tool. It can be used to move hot grates and prepare meats. The flat side of the knife can serve as a spatula.

A Real "Man Tool"
Saw them in use on Maui and had to have one. Can be used to carve up a pineapple, dispatch a large fish, open a coconut or chop a path through the jungle. A sheath option would be nice, but duct take and cardboard solved the problem in short order. For the price, fit and finish is well above average. The factory edge is nothing to rave about. A few licks with a stone, file, Etc. can take care of this.

no complaint against the product but...
Amazon doesn't carry the Tramontina cane knife that I wanted but this was similar enough, I figured I'd give it a go. The blade had to be sharpened, but that's expected and went easily enough. Other reviews complained about the handle/gap design but I found no issue with this. It's comfortable to hold and use. The blade seems tough and didn't suffer any damage from hacking at large bamboo stocks. The hook seems somewhat useless (maybe it is meant to be sharpened?) but does provide a nice hook to hang it by.My main complaint isn't really a fault of the product but against this style of machete. It's short and heavy, almost like a meat cleaver or a lightweight axe. It doesn't cut thru branches that my longer standard machete will, it just doesn't build up enough speed.I got this with yard maintenance in mind since my regular machete stays in my car now. I'm not really sure what I'll do with it now... maybe use it to flip burgers as another reviewer mentioned.

Economical but crude
Received this cane cutter and it is not bad for the price. The handle is two slabs of wood riveted to the sides the blade which leaves a space all around the handle. On my cutter the wood handle slabs were not even, one was higher than the other. I had to sand the handle slabs even to get a comfortable grip. There are 3 rivets in the handle not 5 as stated in the description. I ended up filling the space between the handle slabs with wood filler and then sanded and coated with poly varnish. Very comfortable handle now. Looking at other brands they all seem to be the same type of construction perhaps, some are made with more care.

Hard to find this locally - always 'out of stock'
right length & weight, handle is adequate, good value for the money and exactly what I needed

Get what you pay for?
Mine came dull with a rough edge. Difficult to sharpen. Had to buy a new file, I had so much edging to do.Maybe I’m using this for purposes it wasn’t intended— clearing and cutting an invasive, woodland-destroying vine. But the cane knife only works well and safely on the smaller vines. Anything much bigger than an 1.5 inch is a bit beyond the safe and effective working window of this tool. The spine simply isn’t heavy enough to carry and transfer the force of a big swing. And the blade is vulnerable to bending. The handle is not comfortable and tends to roll in my not terribly large handsHowever, the end I actually like the design even for cutting dense woody vines. But the spine and blade need to be more heavily built.
