A great item which works very well but beware of TV settings causing no sound.
I found this product after some research as I wanted to extract the sound from a tv with only HDMI ARC audio output and feed it to a HiFi amplifier. The main criteria was to get one where the volume would be controlled by the TV remote (ARC CEC).Many similar items do not have this facility. This one does and I found a review showing that on Youtube. As a tv installer, I can solve most connection issues but initially I had a problem when I connected the unit as I had no sound. After a lot of experimenting, I found that I needed to set the sound output on the TV menus to PCM. (LG TV). Then I had a fully working system with good sound. When I went on to play a 4K video on the TV from Youtube, I again had no sound and had to go to the menus again and set that also to PCM.After that, all was very good. The TV volume control does control the output to the amplifier which is very good.Although some of this is mentioned in the instruction sheet, it is very small and difficult to read and a larger instruction sheet would help a lot.Overall a good item.

WORKS!
I bought a new Samsung TV and was trying to play the sound through a mini digital amp. Sounds easy enough, really wasn't! No RCA out and the Optical out had some awful volume gate on it so that was no good. After trying several different options this one worked properly, in fact it worked as soon as I hooked it all up. It converts the HDMI ARC to an analogue signal the amp can understand. I'm very happy to have it all working now. Recommended product and seller.

Not fit for purpose to break sound out of ARC cable to subwoofer
This was a very poor item. While it did pass the volume control signals out to the soundbar, it was very slow and would miss changes if you tried to make more than one adjustment per second. It does not pass though device on/off control signals so your soundbar no longer turns on or off when your TV does. The worse bit was the RCA output was so low compared with the HDMI output that the subwoofer had to be turned to full to even hear it, and only if the soundbar was turned up very loud. Also the instructions didn't have not one space in the entire leaflet - not between any words. It does not ship with a power adaptor. You have to source one for yourself.

Worked perfectly
1. If using HDMI, make sure you use a HDMI cable which supports audio (not all HDMI cables are created equal)2. Make sure you select the correct source for audio on the selector switch3. For my setup, I had an external audio device with an analogue volume controller, so maintaining volume control for the TV via native remote control was a must. opted for ARC HDMI audio output and maintained remote volume control by toggling "HDMI-CEC Anynet+" ON in expert settings on my TV).

Excellent
Used on the HDMI ARC output of my Samsung OLED TV to emulate the now obsolete headphone output. Worked well and volume controlled by the TV's normal remote.

Stereo?
Very poor stereo channel separation; ie stereo image width.
