Imposing.
I have several Gil Hibben knives and most of them are very impressive. This has to be the best of them all, however. I have the other similar version of this machete with the stainless blade. I loved that when I got it, but this is even more ominous with the high-carbon blade with the textured old-world surface. You can practically hear it ring when you pull it from the sheath. The walnut handle and stainless guard are also nice upgrades. Yes, it is made in China but I literally went over it with a magnifying glass and saw no cognizable defect.I guess the major decision you have to make with these type of "designer" knives is as to whether you will actually use them, or merely display them. This looks like it is meant to be used...but if it is used, there will obviously be some wear visible on the blade at some point. My position for the time being is I will use it if I have to. It will be displayed somewhere readily accessible. I have a bunch of knives, and I am pretty sure this would be the one I'd choose if there was a home intruder coming up the stairs at night. One swing from this thing would...let's just say it wouldn't be pretty.

Not that big for a machete but still nice
Nice weight, seems well put together, comes with a nice edge. Even my friend's fiance thought it was cool. Just with it came with a leather sheath.

Garbage
Not liking this cleaver. Maple handle scales were cracked. Blade not very sharp. Not made for heavy work. More for looks.

Handle hurts
This blade has the perfect profile for chopping and with the hefty chunk of high carbon steel behind it, it does it very well. However, there are a few hard angles on the handle that wear into a hand that's chopping away all day. Even the little metal 'guard' digs into the finger. No blisters after a days work, but still, uncomfortable. Scale fit's a little off too; gaps in odd places against the tang and guard. Brass pins were slightly raised for increased palm displeasure, there seemed to develop a low quality guard rattle and impact vibration was felt quite often. Strange handle material to boot; tried to get the blades pristine beauty back after use and the wood finish seemed to wash off. Cracking in the future would not surprise. Sharp out of the box though. And tough. Kept it's edge after hacking through piles of 3" branches. Overall it's a great looking machete that performs very well but, wish I had done more due diligence and purchased a Condor.
