Wow, these things are no joke! Good build quality and VERY sharp spikes.
We've had a problem with keeping the local wildlife off of our porch. The animals in question are Morning Doves and neighborhood cats.We live in Arizona where the sun bakes everything outside all day. The bird droppings become a whole new problem and mess to clean up when they will be boiling on the concrete by high noon. We've asked around but can't figure out which neighbor's cat keeps coming around our porch area and spraying their territorial scent, which also smells extra horrible when the sun bakes it for any amount of time.So I figured these spikes would be a good idea to keep the animals in question away from our outdoor area. They arrived well packed and with yard stakes which you can use to affix them to anything soft enough to push stakes down into. The modular construction on every piece means these pieces conveniently stack like Legos in case you need to store or transport them. Every single unit can be physically attached to any other unit via the holes provided. So I actually had to take off a star because they are dangerously sharp. Deterrence can mean a lot of things in a broad variable of situations so I'll just be clear and say if your intention is that there is no way that this deterrent could injure a potential intruder, this is not your choice. I'm pretty sure most wild animals would be able to tell that these are dangerous by the look of them but I wouldn't put it past a dumbed down domesticated short hair tabby to maybe try their luck. All that considered I chose not to use this for deterring the cat and only placed them in the high places that only the birds could get to.For that purpose these worked INCREDIBLY well! Not one bird dared land on their precious favorite perches. Because of the quality construction, even baking in the Arizona sun, I feel these will last indefinitely where we've placed them around the property. I feel metal ones or ones made of flimsier plastic would not be able to last nearly as long. It is something to consider if you're going to have to go through the hassle of a ladder for installation. If you choose these, you won't have to replace them anytime soon. So, be aware these are actually very dangerous and could very likely seriously injure an animal or person. I have no doubts that if I were to step down my whole weight on it unknowingly the spikes would certainly pierce through my whole foot. So keep that in mind if you've got children, drunks, dogs, coons or cats who could end up stepping on these. All warnings about how dangerous they are aside, they do their job well. These will absolutely keep away birds at the very least and probably mountain lions at the most. The price is very fair and the quality is so good you won't be having to replace them any time soon. It's a great product, just be very careful, these spikes are VERY dangerous.

too narrow for wide spaces
We needed something to deter black birds from landing on the window sills and pulling at the screens. These looked promising as the spikes are sharp and do not allow birds to perch, however, they were too narrow to adequately cover the sills enough and the birds were still able to land. Would work great in narrow areas.

Great for Dogs as well
We have rabbits in a pen that is about 2 foot off the ground and sometimes local dogs come in our yard when we are not home and try and get our rabbits. I got these to put under the pen and it seems to work. They dogs are deterred by the plastic spikes, which are sharp, plus you can add in the longer metal spikes. It has helped keep the dogs away from the rabbits. I am sure they would work great for birds as well, since it would not give them a good place to sit. I also thought about using some for my chickens to prevent them from roosting where I dont want them to. usually on the nesting boxes, making the eggs really dirty.

Finally Something Effective
This set of bird spikes has you covered. It combines the metal spikes with the plastic ones so you have the effectiveness of each type. The metal spikes are optional and can be installed in different directions and they are fairly sturdy once installed. We have been battling a robin building a nest on our porch and it took getting this to finally get rid of it.

Don' buy these a waste of money
Don't buy these they are a waste of money. As soon as I put these on the ledge of window and left the bird starting walking on these. They say the bird won't like these on their feet. WRONG. Doesn't bother them at all.
