Great Starter Phone
A Great First Phone for Kids – Gabb Phone 4 ProWe recently got the Gabb Phone 4 Pro for our 10-year-old, and it’s been a great choice for a first phone. As a parent, I love that it offers essential features without the distractions of social media or risky apps. What We Like:✅ Kid-Friendly Features – The phone has calling, texting, GPS tracking, and a handful of safe apps, so kids can stay connected without the typical smartphone distractions.✅ Durable Design – It’s lightweight but feels sturdy enough to handle daily use (and the occasional drop).✅ Parental Controls – The Gabb settings allow me to manage contacts and app access, giving me peace of mind.✅ Great Battery Life – It holds a charge well, lasting through a full day of use.✅ No Internet Browser – I appreciate that there’s no unrestricted internet access, keeping the focus on communication and safety. What Could Be Better:➖ The camera is decent but not as high-quality as mainstream smartphones.➖ Initially, photos were appearing upside down when opened from the Photos app, but this was resolved by switching to the Gallery app instead.Final ThoughtsThe Gabb Phone 4 Pro strikes a perfect balance between giving kids independence and keeping them safe. It’s a great way for them to stay connected without the distractions of social media or unnecessary apps. If you’re looking for a beginner-friendly, worry-free phone for your child, this is a solid option!

Perfect for my son’s first phone
When I was looking for a safe and simple phone for my son, Benjamin, the Gabb Phone 4 Pro checked all the boxes. It has the basic features we need—texting and calling—without the worry of social media or internet access. Knowing that there’s no browser and no way to download random apps gives me a lot of peace of mind. The setup was easy, and I really like the parental control app that lets me decide what Benjamin can access. The location tracking is a big plus, too. I can check his location anytime, which is reassuring when he’s out with friends or at school. For Benjamin, the Gabb Phone 4 Pro is exactly what he needs. He enjoys having his own phone to text family and call when he needs something, and I appreciate how user-friendly it is. This phone fits perfectly into our lives, giving Benjamin a bit of independence while letting me stay connected and in control.

(6mo review update) Great device, just know what you're getting first
TL;DR Great first device for “tech in steps.” For users with additional device control needs especially. May not suit some users, but if you're in the market, give Gabb a look and/or try!Full review:Decent service, decent device. No other company offers such robust, granular parental control.Hardware:Made by Samsung (A15 or 16, can't remember)Headphone Jack (yes!)Decent 13MP front and 50MP rear cameras5000mAh battery that lasts FOREVER (at least mine did)MicroSD slotSide button finger print sensor (which isn't as great if you're used to the on-screen one as I was, and often I forgot was there, but still a welcome addition nevertheless)Premium feelPremium designSoftware:Android-based but heavily Gabb-altered (but not in a bad way, see next points)No Internet browserExtra apps (currently only offered on 4 Pro Advanced plan; must be approved to download to the device or show up in the Play Store)Contact-management defaults to user-managed and filters unknown contact messages/calls to requests tabOptional Parent-Approved contact mode blocks ALL contacts except parent approvedLocation tracking capabilitiesFactory Reset disabled to protect kids’ devicesPlans:Starter: 25-30 pre-tax: NO picture/group msg (MMS), cloud storage for pictures/contacts, no other frillsStandard: 30-35 pre-tax; adds MMS, Gabb Music Lite (explicit free radio-style music), more cloud storageAdvanced: 35-50? pre-tax; switches to Gabb Music Plus (more typical customizable music player with same artist/song access), 3-10GB data, 3rd party app suppory, and additional cloud storageAvailable apps subject to change, but all reviewed/approved by Gabb. Only parent-permitted apps available on the deviceIf your desired app is unavailable, submit as many requests as you like from the accountPoints to consider:Objectively overpriced as of Mar 2025 (less of the typical phone features, and often higher monthly than adding a line to an existing family plan)Not without quirks (examples: verification codes come through as requests, or not at all with Parent-Approved contacts mode; links don't work because there's no browser support; and many apps don't allow login because they require browser/Google account access)Sometimes lags when you are pushing the RAM to it's limits, but that's to be expected and normalOverall, I recommend the watch for younger kids, and the 4 Pro for everyone else (since it's the only one that can do 3rd party apps currently). Just be prepared that your kids are GOING to lose their watches from time to time. Mine did lol. More on why I don't recommend the 4 on its own review.Full Disclaimer: *former* customer of almost 1.5 years from Oct 2023 to Mar 2025 and *former* employee for 6 months during that time.I got this phone as a way to disconnect more from my devices and connect more with my kids. I was using it as my daily driver and yes, I did port over my number, which was surprisingly seamless. Ultimately, since I had some deal breakers (the main one being text authentication codes) I ended up porting out and this was seamless also.

Makes Mom feel good
This is a very nice solution to worries about your child getting into trouble on a phone. It is very basic: phone, text, music, weather, maps, and a decent camera. I love the GPS tracking so that I know where the phone and its owner are. Setup wasn't overly difficult and what questions I had were helped through text communications. Responses were quick and thorough. I was able to port the old number from a previous provider all through the text chat, and everything was taken care in a few hours. Time will tell, but I feel like this is a great option for my child.
