Good, but I struggled with it.
I use a machete, a hatchet, and both a 6" and 24" chainsaw. I've been tearing up my machetes by hacking at too-large branches so have been trying to be better about using the hatchet instead. This machete is thicker and heavier so I expected it to take the abuse - which it did. It's hard to tall from my second pic but the thick blade isn't grinded to a V tip, it's flat on one side and grinded to a blade point on the other. I'm not sure that's my preferred shape, I think it'd be better if it was grinded on both sides into a V blade tip but maybe if so it'd be more susceptible to bending like my regular machetes.I included two pics of a branch I hacked at so you could see there was an effort made inches away from each other. On the left is me hacking repeatedly and fairly hard with this machete. Though of decent weight, it's length and short handle means there's not much swing force at the blade end. I'm certain it'd perform better if the blade was 8-12" longer. That's okay though, this can be considered a field blade hanging from a belt whereas a full size machete would be awkward to carry. I didn't count the hit attempts, but it was definitely more than a couple dozen. I never did break though. Once my arm got tired I switched to the small hatchet I use (cuts on the right side of the last pic) You can see how some of those cuts went pretty deep. I think I only swung the hatchet about 4-5 times. It also didn't slice all the way through the approx 1.5-2" branch, but would have long before the same number of swings with the machete. Again, this was an unfair test, this machete isn't designed for what I tested it to do. For much smaller branches or trimming off small side branches it'd perform much better. The machete arrived not very sharp, so first thing I did was sharpen it before and after my test. Whacking it repeatedly against the too-big branch did slightly deform the blade edge, but I resharpened it so it'll be a straight and sharp blade next time I use it. It's relatively compact size will be handy to keep on my belt for light trimming duty, but it's short length means most of the cutting effort will come from me instead of centrifugal force so I'm likely to use the long machetes for when I need that extra punch.
