Q: I have used both the signal finder and a app. I have a strong signal but nothing showing on tv

I used dishpointer app. Then once had strong signal retune tv to pick up the dish on whichever hdmi port its plugged into.

Q: I intend to buy a humax hdr-1100s freesat recorder & live in cornwall. questions is, an i considering the right dish for my needs?

This should be fine, I use mine on freesat hdr box in Gloucestershire and it works well. You are nearer the equator in Cornwall so you will have no problems. Take time to tune to the satellite properly.

Q: Will this dish work with an open box

I don't know what an open box is, but the dish works with my Freesat TV and my daughter's Freesat box

I am not a professional installer, but there is plenty of help online. The kit came with a signal finder which should assist. My installation was at eaves level with clear line of sight of the sky. I would look at other properties nearby to see which way they point. Hope this helps.
