Works
I installed this tritium bead on a Mossberg 500 super bantam 20 gauge. I removed the old bead. I just placed a sock in between a pair of pliers and unscrewed the old bead and used the same sock on the pliers to screw in the tritium bead. Initially it did not line up perfectly it needed another 3/4 turn, so using the pliers w a sock in between I just twisted another 3/4 and it lined up perfectly. Took me all of 5 minutes. The bead could possibly benefit from being larger, but I don't feel like it is too small to see easily. After install I turned off all the lights in the house. The shotgun was unloaded and I walked around in the dark rooms and the bead glowed pretty well and was easy to pick up in the dark. I felt that this tritium bead will help me aim more accurately in darkness than with the standard bead.UPDATE: well I decided to take the tritium bead off my Mossberg 500 and put on a Mossy 590. On taking it out the threads stripped. I suspect that when I installed the bead that when it did not line up properly I had to use pliers to make an additional 3/4 turn. I think I may have over torqued the sight to turn it the additional 3/4 turn to get it to line up properly. Now the bead is loose and stripped and may have stripped the threads in the barrel. A solution may be to instead try filing down the bottom of the screw. Not sure though. I will not be reordering this bead and will look for other options. It should be easier to install and remove multiple times without damaging the bead. It may not be the product's fault, I may have cross threaded or over torqued it but I think the design should be easier to get it to line up properly.

Substantial improvement over the factory bead
I have a preference for bead sights on a "working" shotgun, and like something brighter than the factory metal bead in good lighting (and need something luminescent in reduced light.) I have a few decades of experience with the Remington 870P, and my usual go-to on those is the XS Big Dot which mounts over the existing bead with epoxy. When I recently picked up a Mossberg 590A1-- hey, thanks for basically ceasing support with 870P parts, newly-reborn Remington-- the XS seemed less attractive since the Mossberg version of the sight epoxies directly to the smooth barrel surface rather than mounting on an existing brazed base like the Remington version.Enter this sight, which matched the existing tapped threads on the 590A1 barrel perfectly, fit flush both on the exterior and bore of the "heavy wall" barrel, was bright, and has been absolutely solid. I used purple loc-tite but that honestly might have been unnecessary. Zero complaints, and an EXCELLENT value for the price.

Good luck getting it to stay on
I purchased this as a replacement for the sight post on my Mossberg 500 shotgun. The directions in the package are pretty sparse, with no mention made of securing the sight with any thread locking compound, just to screw it into the height you want it and make sure it's facing the shooter. Threading it in, it bottoms out about 30 degrees past the direction it needs to face so you have to back off on it that little bit, which leaves it just finger tight with no way to tighten it and keep it aligned. In my installation, I chose to use some blue thread locking compound to secure it and keep it from moving. I let the locking compound cure for over a week before taking the gun to the range. I fired 30 rounds of slugs that day, some using this sight and some using the red dot I have on the gun and sometime around the 25th shot, the sight disappeared. I looked all over the shooting area for it but never did find it so I reinstalled the sight the gun came with. Do yourself a favor and don't waste your money with this.

Great Tritium Night Sight
This is a great tritium sight, particularly for the price. I read a lot of the reviews, and it seems to me that most of the complaints about the brightness (or lack thereof) are due to a high degree of inexperience with tritium sights. I am a military veteran, and I can state for a fact that this sight is FAR brighter than the military issue tritium night sights for the M16A1 rifle. Tritium sights naturally appear as white dots in bright light, with the green glow only visible in low light or darkness. I have used them on various weapons systems for years. That is how tritium works. Tritium is a radioluminescent, low-energy, beta-emitting isotope with a 12-year half-life. The energy is so low, that in small amounts, such as a sight bead, the glow is not visible in daylight. If you want something that glows brightly in broad daylight, get an electronic dot sight or a fiber optic. My ONLY complaint is that the sight did not align correctly with the barrel, and the sight contained neither instructions on how to correct this nor the hardware (e.g. "shims") to do so. The issue was easily remedied by a small piece of electrical tape on the top of the barrel to shim it flush and a bit of blue locktite on the sight threads. After the final install (once all fitting was completed) I trimmed the electrical tape flush with the edges of the sight base using a razor knife. No issues, perfectly aligned, and hasn't shot loose yet, after numerous rounds of buckshot and slugs, to include magnum loads.

Did not fit M500 or Maverick 88 12 gauge - disappointing.
I purchased this for my M500. It does not fit, it was too small in the hole from the bead sight. I tried a Maverick 88 (made by Mossberg). The gunsmith at my local range tried to get it to fit in the hole from the bead sight and he wound up breaking the threads. Now I cannot return it because it was broken (no fault of the seller) and I cannot use it because it is broken and doesn't fit on the 12 gauge. Also, this is a very TINY sight. It will glow nicely in a 100% dark room but I don't think it is worth the price. Especially since I am now stuck with it and cannot do anything with it.Two stars because it is not the seller's fault I have the issues going on. Seller packaged and shipped quickly.Best of luck to other buyers and congratulations to anyone that can get this to fit their M500.
