Very Good Resource
This book provides exactly what the title implies and is for those interested in beginning a home staging consultant practice. This is not the ideal book for those seeking to stage a home themselves, but for anyone looking for a practical guide to starting a business with an emphasis on staging it is a good addition to a reference library. It covers a great deal of information and due to this fact does not cover any one area in great depth. In some cases it may provide all of the information you will want to know, and in other areas will make you aware of the fact that you need further study. I would suggest this as a "springboard" and the first book to read on the subject as it provides a good foundation. Additional study of staging, home enhancement, interior design elements, and starting a small business will be necessary. Although this book contains a great deal of helpful tips and ideas involving home enhancement it is by no means a complete course on the staging process. In fact beginning with this book may have been the author's intention as she does have many other books, as well as an online training course, available. My advice is to gleen from as many professionals as possible, and if a small business is in your future do not forget your local accountant, attorney, insurance agent, and perhaps a mentor. Including some forms in the back was a nice gesture on the author's part but honestly including legal forms had to be a bit restricting. For your business you need your own forms, generated with your attorney (In other words I would not purchase this book simply for the forms, many of which are lacking or are simply suggestions for creating your own.) There are many books on the subject of staging alone and not business (although for a novice...for a beginner who wants all of the basics in one book) and the most complete, believe it or not, is "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Staging Your Home to Sell." (This is also a good book for those seeking to attempt part of the staging process themselves. I am sorry but you will not get the same quality of finished product as you would if using a professional, but give it a shot. Whatever you do in the process certainly won't hurt!) "Home Staging for Profit" contains some great information resulting from years of success in the industry, and as I said before, is a great place to start. I have been staging for over 20 years (long before it had a known name) and in an effort to constantly stay abreast of what's new in the industry I am constantly reading and adding to my library. I will be leaving reviews for many other books involving staging, interior design, color theory, real estate, and redesign, which may be helpful to some. Just check my other reviews and I hope I will have them all written before you get there!

Very helpful book!
This is a very helpful book whether you want to stage homes for profit or stage your own home for sale. These tips make a home much more appealing to buyers and the information is presented clearly with photos. The only thing that would make it better is if the photos were in color. I would recommend this book, it has a lot of good tips...and it is a good little needed business to get into as well.

Great intro so far...
I recently bought 2 books on Staging, since I'm currently wondering wether to pursue it as a new career. Right off the bat, this book is very inspiring in it's voice and the writer's accomplishments. I'm barely into it, but it's already gotten me back to feeling excited about the possibilities. As opposed to the other staging book i'm about to review, and ended up returning. The layout is like reading a term paper, but it's kind of nice reading on such a big format for a change. No color pictures to speak of, but if you're buying this, you're not looking for color ideas. Just tell me what the biz is all about, and what i could expect from giving it a go, is all i'm looking for.I'm really enjoying the way that it's written as if the author is talking to you. It's much more entertaining, and it makes me feel like she's there for any questions, which she says she is!So based on the 30+ pages or so i've read, this book is a definite for those looking for some insight into this growing business.

The ultimate guide to home staging.
"Home Staging for Profit" is a wonderful resource for those interested in a career in home staging. Compared to the two other books I've read on the subject, this one is by far the best. There is virually nothing that a home stager need to know that is not covered in this book. I have been hestitant to start my own business, but Ms. Jennings has provided all the information I need to know, from selecting a business name to supplying sample forms. This book has given me the confidence and the tools I need to launch a successful career in home staging. In addition to the information on setting up a business, it includes: Effective communication skills, professional ethics, questions to ask the seller, and tips on cleaning, decluttering, restoring and enhancing all rooms of the house. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in home staging for themselves or as a career.

Good content, poor layout
While I was very hopeful and excited to read this book, I've been slightly disappointed. The content covered is good and the author hits on very pertinent aspects of the business but the book is laid out so poorly; she goes from one point right to another unrelated point. From what I've read about the author, she is highly experienced in the staging industry and knows what she's talking about but this book is just so hard to follow. In her defense, she did state several times throughout the book that she is "not a professional writer."

A wealth of information!
I purchased this book because I desired to start my own home staging and redesign business. I researched online about Barbara Jennings, went to her website, read the testimonials, and checked out her home study courses. For me, as a complete novice with a passion for design, this book was an incredible journey into what it would truly take to get my business started. Barbara shares so much of her experience, insight and wisdom along with practical knowledge and application. I was impressed with her candor. Her willingness to share the good, the bad, and the ugly so to speak. No fluff. I found her writing to be personable and refreshing. I cannot imagine the expense I would have had to lay out if this was a traditional college course of training. This book in a textbook format would have cost me more than $100 I know. For me a $30 investment in my new career choice was a no-brainer. This fully comprehensive book will be a resource I turn to over and over again. Highly recommend it.
