Inspiring account of a faithful Christian who believed that slavery was contrary to Christian principles.
Excellent first-hand account of slavery, it's effects, and how the author made a difference in the lives of escaped slaves. Regarding the format of the book, the kindle editors should create a revised version due to misspelled words and formatting. The reader is still able to determine what the correct words should be, but a more thorough edit should be conducted to address these issues.

Riveting memoir!
I am a descendant of Levi Coffin and my family owns a copy of the first publication of his memoirs. I am glad that the first reviewer found his reminiscences absolutely fascinating, but Levi Coffin was not a coffin manufacturer! At various times in his life he was a farmer, merchant, and involved in banking. The Coffin name has a long history in England, predating the establishment of the Coffin estate there in the 1100's. The name has nothing to do with the manufacture of coffins. That said, Levi Coffin's reminiscences are absolutely riveting and better than any historical fiction novel.

Good Research Book
Great primary resource book about one of great Abolitionists in history. The book is challenging to read because of how it is written but is invaluable in content. I would recommend it to any researcher interested in this period of history.

An important part of history brought to life for the reader.
I received this book 2 days ago and can hardly tear myself away from it. Keep in mind that the book was written by Levi Coffin in his old age and, I believe, was not edited. There are misspellings and some words that were used in normal conversation in the early 1800's are offensive now. That being said, I have been into genealogy and this book brings my Quaker abolitionist ancestors to life. I am proud to say that my 3X great grandparents were involved in the Under Ground Railroad, working with Levi Coffin and his wife Catharine White Coffin (1st cousin to my 3rd great grandfather). This talks about the things they did to help the fugitives from the south and told the stories of what the slaves went thru, although it probably doesn't scratch the surface, being 2nd hand information. I highly recommend this book.

OUTSTANDING HISTORY!!
Very readable. This book is a true history of the Friends and their Underground Railroad to move escaped slaves to Canada. A visit to the Coffin home is a real experience.

Interesting look into one mans dedication to rescue slaves and end slavery
I enjoy history and after our local news did a story for Black History Month and highlighted this book. It is a poignant look into slavery and the man who worked tirelessly to rescue the men and women trying to escape. Couldn’t put it down!
