The Forgotten Axis: Germany's Partners and Foreign Volunteers in World War II

This is a very well written history of a fairly unknown/unaddressed subject in WWII history. Speaks about WWII in a much different context than most historical texts, bringing to light the religious perspective that colored some people's desire or willingness to join the Axis forces, and fight alongside them. In this day & age we tend to forget that back in the mid 20th century, Communism was considered an abhorrent evil (even more so than now) and was the primary motivation for many who fought alongside Germany & Italy. Highly recommended.

This is a really great and important book. I love his two forgotten Allies books and wrote reviews of them. I intend to write a detailed review, but it will take a while. While it is a great and important book, it is not an easy read. Still, in addition to learning a lot, I am also enjoying the book. It was amazing to me that I have had the two Forgotten Allies books since the 1980s, I did not even learn of this book till 2011! I promptly bought a copy (at the highest price I have ever paid for a book) and am happy that I did.

This is one of the best all encompassing books on the foreign volunteers and allies that served alongside the German forces in WWII. It's a compelling read and the author touts a variety of primary sources. Unfortunately the historical authenticity is somewhat questionable as hardly anything is cited.To sum up: interesting, very useful if you want to learn more about the subject area, but there are more accurate sources out there.

Great book, this book shoiws the reader all the nation that contributed to the german war machine. Great book on number and the defeat suffered by the nation who sent forces to battle for the germans.
