Simple, yet perfect
I was not familiar with the “mr” and “little miss” books from growing up, but my husband happened to mention them to me and indicated they were one of his favorites as a child. His sister said the same thing, so I decided we’d try them in our house. Needless to say, my kids are now 2nd generation fans. The books are smaller, which is great for younger kids to grab, hold, and thumb through without too much of a challenge. These are also a very nice quality print and bind and look brand new after having two toddlers and now preschoolers use them for over a year, even after reading them numerous times. The illustrations are bright and simple which is what I think is so appealing to my girls. See my pics for examples. It gives them less to focus on so they can just enjoy the faces and story. In fact, my younger daughter still refers to every smiley face she sees as Mr. Happy. Each story has a pleasant ending or moral, but they’re not preachy. These would be a fantastic teaching tool. I’ve already bought extra copies to give as gifts. And the price on amazon is awesome. For the amount of stories and quality of the book I’d easily pay $30 wth no regrets.

Great little series
I have no idea why, but my daughter LOVES this series. We originally had a couple of Little Miss books someone gave me. When I started homeschooling, I pulled one out for an assignment. She liked them so much, I bought a set of Mr. Men AND Little Miss. For my daughter, these books allowed her to read with alot of independence, while still introducing some new vocabulary (Little Miss Contrary springs to mind as an example). Just for a reference point, my daughter was an advanced reader in public school, and we started started these books at the beginning of 1st grade. If you happen to homeschool, the books work really well as a platform (we had discussions and examples of when she was contrary, things she did that were NOT contrary, whether that was positive or negative, etc.). I will be keeping the series to continue with her 2 younger sisters when they start school. Best way to get kids to read is great material, and this set worked very well for our purposes.

Great Set of Stories I Enjoyed as a Child
I ordered this box set for my son because he asked for more Mr. Men books for his 4th birthday. This was a great way to get multiple of the classic Mr. Men books at a great price, and these are hardcover, so my young kids aren't quite as rough on them as the paperback versions. My son is probably a little too young to get some points of the stories, but he laughs at a lot of the content and likes to talk about why the characters act the way they do, so the books seem to be teaching him some important lessons. In summary, I really enjoy being able to read these books that I read as a kid with my children and this would be a great "starter set" for someone looking to do the same.

Delightful across generations
This entire series of books is totally delightful. When my son was small (30-some years ago) he watched and listed with glee and eventually began reading them himself. I just bought this particular collection for a friend's child's second birthday and he is totally delighted too. Sturdy little books just the right size for small hands, they have colorful and simple illustrations that inspire small children to invent their own stories even before they can read. There are MANY more in the series, also the Little Miss series about girls. Highly recommend.

Classic stories in a new box set
Like many people, I enjoyed these books growing up and wanted to share them with my son who is now 11 months old.The books come in a very sturdy box that can be used as storage. They are very sturdy hard-cover with thick, printed on glossy paper stock. You can tell a lot of thought was put into the design of these books - the colour of the binding paper in each book matches the colour of the story's main character. For those not familiar with this series, each book tells the story of a particular Mr. ____ who's name coincides with a particular trait they possess (Mr. Sneeze can't stop sneezing, Mr. Bump is injury-prone, Mr. Happy is perpetually happy, etc.)The story typically shows how the character manages their every-day life, and how their distinct condition impacts upon it. They often show how the character overcomes detrimental behaviour or learns to embrace it and seek positive results. The author, Roger Hargreaves, was English, and the books are a bit dated (first published in early 1970's), so I expected there to be words or concepts that aren't as common for modern North American readers. Except for the occasional telephone, the stories translate to present day quite well. Perhaps for older readers this will be a fun exercise: looking up what a telephone is, or a pot of marmalade. One think I will mention about the physical books themselves, the corners were made a bit sharp, so be careful with younger children. After my kid got a knick on his face, I took to blunting them all with a wooden spook.

Multi-generation favorite
I just discovered that I and one of my children both chose to give a Mr Men set to the latest generation in our family. I loved reading them aloud and my son loved having them read to him. I chose the 10-book hardback set because these are obviously books for keeping. My son gave the 47-book set of paperbacks, because he doesn't think you can have too many Mr Men books. Since it apparently isn't clear in the description, neither set has any of the Little Miss books, which is probably as well since they seem to be rather controversial. (Warning to parents to check the content of Little Miss books before deciding to buy or not buy.)
