so decided to pick these badboys up - and I'm glad that I did
So I decided I wanted to learn lockpicking, and after some careful research discovered that Southord are thought of as one of the top brands when it comes to picks, so decided to pick these badboys up - and I'm glad that I did. I am now Jason Bourne.;)The picks themselves are pretty well crafted, although they do bend a little, but this teaches that you need a gentle touch. Kinda similar to licking sherbett off a butterflies wings (the blokes out there will know what I mean,...), you need that delicate touch and need to resist the urge to use more pressure. These are thinner than some other pick sets out there, as they are designed for European locks, so I'd advise these for UK purchasers. A very good set for beginners, but could have done with a snowman (double ball) pick to complete the set, but they can be picked up separately from amazon anyway, so.....Would I recommend this set for a beginner? Yes, I'm still a beginner and have found the set to be pretty damn impressive.

These tools are well made and easy to handle and SouthOrd seems to have a good ...
I don't have much experience in other lockpick sets as I have only recently needed to be able to evaluate the security of key switches for my work. I can't comment on these relative to other manufacturer's, but as an engineer I recognize quality tools when I see them. These tools are well made and easy to handle and SouthOrd seems to have a good reputation amongst locksmiths. I opened the practice locks I purchased at the same time in between 5 and 30 seconds and I am just a novice. I have yet to see how they fare against the locks I am looking to specify, but I feel these picks will be entirely adequate for the job. They were sent on time and without problems.Previous to this purchase I had been given a book on locks and lockpicking, so I didn't need any further information. However it would have been nice for novices if the set had come with a link to a website explaining the use of each tool and which sorts of lock can be opened with this set.

Good starter kit
Kit contains a good variation of basic picks that would easily be suffice for the beginner. Materials and finish is okay and needs just a tiny bit of cleaning up around the pick edges for perfect smoothness. Only thing I miss in this kit is a couple of top of the keyway tensioners.

I picked a Cocraft 500 open in less than 3 seconds with this set.
I picked (raked) a Cocraft 500 open in less than 3 seconds with this set on my first try.I used these 2 picks: http://s3.postimg.org/5gziuep6b/20150609_203525.jpgI would rate this set 5/5.I looked around all over the net before settling on this set and unfortunately whilst I didn't get the set with the handles (I got a stainless steel set with no handles (not pictured)). I am still very happy with them, it's nice to be able to feel the clicks better through the metal picks. Although they do get a bit uncomfortable in the hands after awhile.I am guessing that I will need a vice to combat that kind of problem but I do like picking with both my hands. All in all the picks are designed well, they don't feel weak, but they do bend a tiny bit. I do wish the tension wrenches were a little better and I'd have liked some more thicknesses/types etc. But I will get them elsewhere (probably from Sparrows).

Very good quality at a fair price
I bought these to begin playing at lock picking. As a beginner I did not want to pay a lot, but I avoided cheap picks. South Ord is a well known brand, and these picks are of good quality.Buy a practice lock as well if you are a beginner. You must learn to work by feel, but initially it gives confidence to see the interior. There are several good free videos on line to help you.Within 30 minutes I had my first success. Now it needs practice.

Perfect kit - Top Notch - High Quality
Top notch - high quality. If you are thinking about this - get it - this kit contains really high quality steel picks in a decent case. 15 pieces is plenty - I always use the same pick most of the time. It wouldn't make sense getting a larger kit - this one seems to open everything. Much cheaper than calling a locksmith. Love it!HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! AAA+++
