fabulous toy!
I purchased this toy for my son for summer. It works better than I had hoped! The actual product is smaller than I had assumed and it would have helped if there had been some kind of age recommendation. My son is ten and the item looks a little silly on him mostly because it is so small. I would definitely rate the size as being more appropriate to about a 4-7 year old child. However, my son absolutely loves it because it shoots a strong stream of water a very large distance. I would estimate at least 20-30 feet. I would be careful about purchasing this item for a younger child because the stream that shoots out seems to have a lot of force. I would be concerned about a younger child getting hurt by being sprayed in the eye. For the money, this product does deliver and has already given my son several hours of enjoyment. That is definitely worth the price. I do feel that it could be a little cheaper. It seems like it is cheaply made, but it does perform as described and my son hasn't broken it yet. For a ten year old with moderately severe ADHD, that alone is priceless!

WINNER!
So I got this for my friend's kid who just turned 3. I was a little nervous as he's really into cars, trucks & Transformers, but since I had already ordered this, we decided to give it to him anyways, with a pair of fireman boots from the local big box store.I gave this to him while we were camping, and apparently he's still into anything Fireman related (WHEW!). He wanted to open the box immediately. Once I filled it with water and showed him how to squirt the gun - BIG HIT. All the kids (ages 2-5) were fighting over it all weekend. The toy itself looks really flimsy and cheap, but works great for the little ones. The backpack function of it doesn't work that well (kept slipping off the boys' backs), but the water pump action was super easy for them to use and we were constantly filling it back up to keep them going. A carabiner like the ones they use for rock climbing might have been a nice attachment to attach the two straps in front of the chest to keep the pack from slipping down the shoulders. This would be a fun way for the kids to water plants too. The water can shoot pretty far, so beware! We had to keep reminding the kids to shoot AWAY from people and our campsite!Would buy again for any toddler!

I wish I could give it 0 stars!
Bought 4 of these for a kids party and all of them had some kind of trouble. The design is awful and the hose keeps coming loose. They all leak. The kids ended up playing with some water guns I bought for just a few dollars. This is a rip off. Do not recommend at all.

Fun, but Flimsy
This super soaker looks like a fireman's backpack and hose. While cute, it is made of very thin, flimsy material. However, my four and six year old sons have had so much fun with these squirt guns. First, they can shoot it for a long time without having to refill the backpack. Second, it is simple to operate, as it doesn't require a small trigger or multiple steps...simple fill with water and pump the fire hose. Overall, a good toy that has provided hours of fun!

Fun for little ones
My boys (ages 3 and 5) got this toy and haven't had a whole lot of opportunities yet to use it because it's turned a bit cold here but the few times they have used it, they've liked it. It makes them feel like real firefighters. It's not the best made toy on the planet. A lot of water leaks out the back of it so their shirts were soaked by the time they took them off. But it was pretty inexpensive and it's a pretty neat little toy so i would recommend it. It would go great with firefighter hats as a Christmas or birthday present.

He loved it and played with it outside for weeks
I bought this "fire extinguisher" for my 4 year old fireman. It was a late birthday gift, meant to complete his whole fireman outfit. He loved it and played with it outside for weeks, until it got too cold to be outside and wet. My son is 39' and the pack fits him perfectly, the straps are a little loose on him, but he is on the skinny side. We simply fixed it by using a hair clip to connect both straps across his chest. As for the pack, it works as its supposed to. Its easy for my son to use without having to use much force. It doesn't leak and takes a good amount of water. The quality seems to be very good, just be careful with the lid since its not attached and could easily get lost

Better than expected
Based on the other reviews lamenting the quality of the item, I have been happily surprised. I would rate its quality on par with other cheap Chinese toys and better than others have described. That being said I did a one thing differently than others because of the reviews I read. I wrapped the connections for the tube tightly with electrical tape to prevent leakage. The handle was straight forward, but I had to take the bottom of the back pack off which involved removing 9 screws in order to get to the tank connector. After having my 3.5 year old play with it for a week, I'm not sure that the extra electrical tape was necessary. I noticed early on that the back of his pants were getting wet. It wasn't from the tank/tube leaking, but from spilling water into the backpack when filling it and then that water getting him wet when he ran around. Now when I fill it I turn it over to make sure the excess water isn't caught in the plastic brackets.
