Nice Mexican Stone to Think About
No problem with this, #8000 natural stone is a quality, what you pay for and get.It is hell of the deal, when purchased on the discount, my stone was actually discounted, still very cool for the price.Except one thing, it's not a Japanese water stone, it's not an American-USA eater. This particular stones are being found in Mexico, it is Mexican water stone, if it matters. Not Arkansas. It is softer than Naniwa #8000 grit stone, in comparison and requires a bit different maintenance. I also noticed, that Mexican stones go well with abrasive oil and aluminum-oxide paste, like DOVO, but Japanese generally do not.I put some water on it,.and I put some DOVO-paste like I would use a classic leather strop. In ten minutes your edge will shine, like a glass.

solid
Works amazingly. I hear a lot of people say not to keep these in water, but I keep mine in water for about a year now and it has stayed as hard and unbroken as a rock. I think the problems may have to do with the stone bumping into other stones or the edges of what they're kept in, but I think that keeping them in the box it comes in helps to protect from that.

Leaves a fine and clean polish
Basically a splash and go stone.Leaves a fine and clean polish.Great for straight razors and chisels as well.If you need a pre finishing stone, or even a finishing stone for your razors, this one will fill the bill.

good stone
This Norton 8000 grit is a good stone for just about anything. This stone came flat unlike my 4000 grit Norton. It works great in a progressive stone set up for straight razors when you need a more gentle cutting and polishing action than diamond or other abrasive stones. It comes in a nice plastic case with rubber feet that works great in holding it still when in use. the stone is thick and should last a long time.

Be wary. Not sure I could be less pleased with this stone
I really don't think I could be less satisfied with this stone. The first indication that I was getting less than I'd bargained for was that, despite the bottom of the sealed package being clearly labeled Made in the USA, the side of the stone is stamped Made in Mexico. Many good products are made in Mexico, so I did not think it too great an issue. Then when I used stone. After flattening the back of a chisel, first with a course diamond then an 800 grit Kingstone, then a 4000 grit King; I switched to the 8000 Norton, and the finish, which from the 4000 King was starting to shine - got much worse. Big scratches appeared. Thinking it might have been just the stone needed to break in a bit, I conditioned the stone on some 2500 grit wet-dry sandpaper on a granite plate I use for flattening planes. I took the chisel back to the 4000 grit King and got back to a near shine. Switched to the Norton, this time moving the chisel at a right angle to the one I'd used on the King. The same deep scratches appeared in the direction of the movement on the 8000 Norton, which is definitely causing them.I did a bit of research and I'm not the first person to have a profoundly different experience with the Mexican stone than what people had seen when they were made in the US. Under magnification the new stones look very different from the US made stones first released. All in all, I would say Norton put out a good product just long enough to get some good reviews - then switched to the junk they sent me to get profits up. Be wary.

good stone, lousy packaging
I bought this stone to hone my straight razors, and after flattening the rough and uneven factory finish it works great to put the final edge on. However, the plastic container it came in was broken and was missing most of the rubber feet, so I cannot use it as a "polishing station" as stated in the description. At this price, you would think they wouldn't skimp on the little things...but you would be wrong.
