Sophie's World is a wonderful book written by Jostien Garder. It tells about a 15 year old girl called Sophie who mysteriously starts receiving letters from an unknown person about philosophy.. She ventures to find out who this mysterious person really is, gets a glimpse of him and finally knows about him when he reveals himself. His name was Alberto. She continues to learn philosophy from that man. She, however, also starts receiving letters addressed to another person called Hilde from someone called Major Albert Kang who seems to be her father. Sophie and her philosophy teacher gradually find out that they are actually characters in a book which has been written by the Major to provide a Philosophy course to her daughter. On Sophie's birthday, her and Alberto work out a plan and escape the Major's book. Sophie find out that it is actually amazing to be alive.Basically, this book is the best way to learn philosophy in a simple and fun way. It tells from the first Greek Philosophers to major philosophers in the 20th Century. This book is very informative. This book can expose you to a whole new world where there are many mysteries, innumerable questions and uncountable answers.Philosophy is necessary for each and every one of us to know about. This book is for all ages. I personally recommend this book to each and every person who happens to be reading this review.

Sophie’s World is an outline of Western philosophy that is beautifully set in a fictional story. It goes from pre-Socratic philosophy all the way to Sartre.Jostein Gaarder does a very good job not just by writing a concise history of philosophy, but also by writing a very accessible book for as far as early teenagers, which in itself is worthy of high praise. His comparison between different philosophers throughout the book is truly remarkable and made the book very enjoyable. He demonstrates, for example, the contrast between Aristotle and Plato by comparing their views about reality and the mind in a way that no philosophy textbook of which I know does. While reading the book and recalling my philosophy classes back at school, I continuously wished that something like Sophie's World was taught there instead of the bleak philosophy textbooks of which I practically remember nothing.However, some may feel that certain philosophers were ignored by the author. I believe this was due to his fictional story, which was fascinating with its twists, and the questions it raised. And, I don't think it's reasonable to expect a full account of Western philosophy being condensed in less than a 500-page book. I believe certain lesser-known philosophers had to be overlooked, not just to achieve brevity, but also to ensure full integration between the fiction and non-fiction of the book. Nevertheless, the book covers vast philosophical grounds and is highly informative.Finally, I think the most important thing in Sophie's World was that it shed light on the significance of various discoveries and advancements of civilization in our reality, and the influence they exerted throughout the ages on our thoughts and philosophies. This, in my view, can be better demonstrate by an artist than by a philosopher, which is what Gaarder did in the book and that's exactly why I highly recommend it.

Must read once in a life time to have glimps of human philosophy from the beginning man started thinking about the surrounding of nature and universe. It enlightens you to distinguish between reason and imagination which was prevalent in form of science and religion.

I recived this book today, Packing by Amazon is very good and behave of delivery boy is also good.....Book is worth for money quality of pages is fine and yellowish colour of pages gives it ancient look........I didn't read book yet but I am sure that this book is gona best for starting phyloshphy.......
