One of the most addicting sets you'll ever own
I just ordered this set but I'm a previous owner of both games and expansions, my discs either stopped working or were lost while moving. The amount of hours I spent playing Age of Empires II: The Age of Kings is insane. Never before I touched a game that was so addicting. I was new to the whole RTS genre, and still to this day I haven't played a game that matches up to it. StarCraft is a definite contender, but it's a different type of RTS. Age of Empires III has nothing on the past games, music included. It's a shame the online servers were taken down, but there are still ways to play these classic games online, google is your friend! At less than $10 for two games and two great expansions you are getting not hours, you're getting days, weeks and months of playtime. Age of Empires II: The Conquerors Expansion took everything that made Age of Kings great and made it even better, there's no other way to put it.I'm serious when I say I did better in some of my history classes thanks to the campaign mode where you re-live the stories of El Cid, Joan of Arc and others. You can also add a lot of user-created maps and features which include the popular Tower-Defense genre, additional adventures, different sprites/characters and even more game modes.Interested in checking out how the series started? Try the originals included in the bundle. You can see which things changed drastically in the sequel and those that kept on going. The style changed quite a bit and so did the general feel of the game, but you can still play the originals just fine, albeit with a few outdated features compared to the sequel (villagers don't automatically gather resources, although that was added in The Conquerors.Simply put, love RTS? Want a classic bundle for a low price? Get this. The Age of Empires II + Expansion bundle actually costs more than this one!

Not the original version
This disc comes from Ubisoft. There are some minor modifications to the games. Just not enough to get aggravated about. Mine came as one disc. It is a European version. It is generally sold to Germans, French, British and Spanish. I used the obvious British. When I put the disc in my dvd drive it open up windows explorer. I clicked on the drive in explorer, then on the arrow pointing to the drive to see the list of folders. It comes with versions for each language and each game Age of Empires/Rise of Rome, Age II/conquerors. You have to install each one separately. When you are done you are ready to play. It says that you don't have to add the online patches as they are incompatible.I have been playing age I. The only problem I have is that the game stops for less that 2 seconds and then starts again. I did not have this problem with my original discs on the same computer.I went to Ubi.com to see if there was anything on their site to fix this. they do not support this particular item. They are a distributor/game designer. there was nothing on their support page about Age. This is why I gave it only 3 stars. For the most part the games are similar to the original. I think tomorrow I will try it on my laptop and see if the stopping goes away.I also tried it in compatibility mode. There was no improvement. I switched to windows xp sp3. when I play in a bit I have it set to win 2000.I have had only a minor problem with color in age I, Age II there is only a problem with water being off. Some people turn off window explorer by using the task manager. That's all for now.

False advertisement
This ONLY contained Age of Empires II. The game itself is fine but the listing claimed to also contain the original, which is actually what I wanted. Very disappointed.

This classic still rocks!
This is still my favorite game, even after all these years. I still like this version better than some of the newer ones. I have had a great time re-introducing my kids to this game, and playing along with them. Well worth the price, in a nice compact package. Works great on older computers. I have tested it on computers running XP, a computer running windows 7, and works OK on Linux Mint running with Wine, though it will lock up occasionally and require a reboot. Highly recommended!

Saved games are frequently corrupted
This CD frequently corrupts my saved games on both the original AOE and the Rise of Rome expansion pack, making those games unplayable when I try to return to them. This is very frustrating. A lot of time was wasted starting games over. I will not bother trying my hand at AOE II or its expansion pack, at least not with this disk.Perhaps I got a bad disk, but I will be looking elsewhere for a replacement.By the way, I am using windows 10.

Oldie But A Goodie
This classic ancient-history strategy game--along with its expansion, and its sequel, and its sequel's expansion--is just as fun now as it was when it was first released. At this price, with all four classic renditions on one disc, you can't go wrong. But this review isn't just about why you should buy this game. It's also about one technical glitch you should know about. This game doesn't appear to work with the graphics in newer, Windows-based machines. For example, I have Vista. This game won't work until I do the following: Click the Window logo in the bottom left-hand corner; in the search box, type "Device Manager"; once in Device Manager, disable the graphics thingy under "Display adapters"; restart the computer. Once I do that, the computer restarts and the graphics look a little funky. But when I play the game, it works--and it looks just as great as it did 10+ years ago. Not much of an inconvenience, and totally worth it.
