Absurd
I read this book after researching Absurdism and Kafka's name was mentioned alongside that of Camus. The story of Metamorphosis was an intriguing one and I found myself pondering things from different perspectives. The Great Wall of China story almost made me throw the book in the bin as it was very hard going and quite pointless in my view. The Burrow was an excellent story and I understood its questioning of the human condition very well.I can see why Kafka has a name for himself in the literary/philosophical world as some of the ideas produced by his stories were quite profound, but I often found myself put off by the difficulty in deciphering the meaning of his work.

A Classic (but hard work)
The story itself doesn't offer much entertainment. The main protagonist wakes up one morning as a bug. If you are a fan of Kafka then this is essential reading. However, the story must be read with the awareness of a complex metaphor within the plot. Otherwise it may appear rather dull on reflection.
