A GREAT ADDITION TO ANY KITCHEN!
Since I've always enjoyed cooking and trying to get better, I finally realized that a salt cellar was needed in my arsenal of kitchen tools. Aside from pouring salt into my hand just to get a pinch or two for whatever I was seasoning and throwing out the rest, which seemed wasteful and dumb, it wasn't efficient. So, I grabbed this salt cellar and it's really great. Simple, works well and does what it needs to do silently, cleanly and effortlessly. The wood seemed a bit TOO dry when I unboxed it so, I gave a liberal dose of mineral oil (on the outside ONLY!) and it drank it like a sponge, Works like a charm and looks good on my counter. Definitely recommend!

American made, beautiful workmanship
The title of the review sums it up. This is always on my counter, to grab a pinch of salt or to dip a spoon into. It would be nice if they offered a wooden spoon to go with it (I use a small wooden spoon left over from something else).

This is a real treasure!!
This is beautiful and functional for many different reasons. I’m a wood lover, and this is something I would grab if my house were on fire.

Beautiful high quality salt cellar
I have had multiple salt cellars and I love this one. I was momentarily disappointed by the visible screw head, but it is counter-sunk and in no way inhibited the function of the cellar. The wood was lovely and smooth and the motion of the lid was super smooth. Also, there was almost no gap between the lid and body which was awesome! (Several of my previous salt cellars had gaps that caused my salt to absorb moisture.)The only reason I gave this four stars is that it appeared it was oiled either after the sticker was put on the bottom, or the sticker was adhered before the oil set. The odor people are complaining of in other reviews smelled like food safe mineral oil and wasn't concerning for me. I simply left it open and out for a couple days to ensure it was fully dry before putting salt in it.

Great cellar/bargain for $8, but not as pictured
I'm very pleased with this cellar. It fits perfectly on my stove ledge and holds a great deal of salt. It isn't too big that it's ugly and conspicuous, but isn't too small that it isn't functional. This item does not fully resemble the preview. It's lid is attached by a visible screw and its corners are not rounded. The screw is not really an eyesore, it sits below the level of the wood and the square, rather than round, corners are still attractive. This is quite a bargain for $8. However, I would recommend tightening the lid screw when you get it.As for the smell that other reviewers comment on, this item ships smelling of mineral oil, which means that the manufacturer is taking proper steps to protect their product from drying and splitting. Any wooden kitchen utensil should be periodically oiled in a similar fashion, this should not take away from the rating of this item.

I love this thing!
I saw the TV chef Simon was always using this on his shows and thought it would be a convenient way to salt my foods when I cook and it is! I keep it right next to the stove and salt is always in reach. Good looking too.

The key is in the details - better than similar salt cellars
This is a high quality, attractive, sturdy salt cellar. What really separates it from similar products, though, is a lack of an outward-facing magnet. The lid on this cellar stays in place, but unlike other cellars it is not held in place by a magnet that's exposed and outward facing. Other cellars magnets end up with tiny amounts of salt getting stuck and ground into them, eventually causing terrible squeaking sounds when opened and shut, similar to nails on a chalkboard. That's not the case with this cellar. Absolutely worth it.

Loose Cover
The one I received was defected, the cover is not flat when closed, left a big gap; the screw probably wasn't aligned correctly damaged the edge of the cover
