SHIMAYA Kombu Dashi Powder (Vegetarian Soup Stock) 1.9 oz (7 packets) [2 Pack]

These are so easy to use to make a simple but flavorful broth for udon noodles. Broth is this dashi, water, soy sauce (tamari/amino acids), salt and sugar. These packets are the perfect amount. No strong fish flavor. The definition of a wonderful umami taste.

I love adding this to my miso soups because it really enhances the flavor instead of just miso. I wish the sodium was a little lower, but the taste is delicious.

Due to the fact that kombu naturally has MSG just like tomato and some other Savory Foods. Also I have just received my order today and have not use that yet . I would have to say that since I have made broth from kombu before knowing that it naturally contains MSG it does not concern me one single bit. But the most important part here is that it is vegan.

I use this in soup, stir fry, and all kinds of cooking.

I tried to see what ingredients were in this product before I bought it, but they were not available. It said in the ad that it was vegan friendly. So, I took a chance. Don’t buy this. It has so many questionable ingredients, like MSG, disodium guanylate and disodium inosinate, flavor enhancers, (side effects which include headaches, dizziness, flushing, or gastrointestinal disturbances like nausea or diarrhea) kelp extract, which includes Dextrin, which may have some positive defects, but also causes decreased appetite, bloating, diarrhea, and stomach upset or abdominal pain. There is also kelp extract and more MSG.There is also a warning on the label that reads: Consuming this product can expose you to chemicals including cadmium, inorganic arsenic and lead, which are known to cause cancer and birth effects or other reproductive harm. The package also states that this product contains bio engineered food ingredients.I’d be very skeptical before purchasing this item. It’s touted as vegan, which gives a false impression of it being a clean product. Well, it’s anything but.

I recently went vegetarian. I was having trouble finding something to replace the savory flavor that meat adds to stews or others dishes. The umami from the seaweed does just that.

I’ve been using a half a packet in my omelet and it’s tasty.
